The document discusses the pin diagram, minimum and maximum modes of operation, and timing diagrams of the 8086 microprocessor. It also covers memory interfacing to the 8086 using static RAM and EPROM, the need for direct memory access (DMA) using a DMA controller like the 8257 for large data transfers, and how DMA data transfer works through memory-to-memory transfers without CPU involvement. Diagrams are provided showing the pinouts, bus operations, memory mapping, and register formats of the 8086 and 8257 DMA controller.

Fig 3.7 Memory interfacing to 8086 For the applications that require huge amounts of data transfer to memory from a magnetic or optical disk a dedicated hardware device called DMA controller is used. The DMA controller temporarily borrows the address bus ,data bus and control bus from the microprocessor and transfers the data bytes directly from the disk controller to a series of memory locations. Some DMA devices even can do memory to memory transfers.
