Laws of time management
how to organize in order
to make the most of each
working hour?
Parkinson’s Law
 set deadlines

« Parkinson’s Law is a fundamental law for work

organisation .
The principle of this law is the following: “Work expands so as
to fill the time available for its completion.” In a nutshell, the
more time we have to complete a task, the more time this task
will take.
Murphy’s Law
 Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong”

« this law makes you always think of the worst, pushes you to
anticipate potential problems and to relflect on solutions to limit
them, or indeed eliminate them.
Pareto’s law
 you should take another look at your prioritie

« Also known under the name the 20-80 law, the Pareto
principle says that 80% of the effects are the product of 20% of
the causes.  Invented at the start of the 20th century by
Wilfredo Pareto, an Italian economist, this principle is verified
in a number of domains, and particularly project management.
Laborit’s Law
 do the hardest first

« start your workday with the most difficult/hard task, then

offer yourself a reward as soon as it is finished. Plan your days
in advance depending on the difficulty of your activities.
Illich’s Law
 give yourself breaks

« learn to take breaks. At noon, take a real lunch break. Go

and eat outside on your own or with colleagues or leave to take
a walk, but avoid eating a sandwich in front of your screen.
Your brain needs breaks to be productive.
 Carlson’s Law
 reduce interruptions as much as possible

«reduce interruptions as much as possible. Only consult your

emails twice a day, avoid multitasking, start a task and finish it
before passing onto the next one, and isolate yourself to work as
soon as possible..
Time-consuming analysis
a)Identification of external and
personal time consuming:

Time-consuming from the Greek "chronos",

"time", and "phagos", "to eat", literally
meaning "to eat time"
Concretely, these are activities, people or
behaviors that are time-consuming.
• There are two original types for a time-
consuming task:
• Internal origin
• External origin
• Let us mention a few of them :

• Sensory parasites: mass of files in the visual field,

noise related to the configuration of the premises,
inappropriate temperature
• Lack of method: Processing tasks in their order of
arrival or for the recipient who shouts the loudest, no
planning, change of schedule for minor reasons,
• social networks: misuse or using for long periods
• lack of mastery of new technologies: difficulty in
tackling, the contributions of new technologies, new
organizations.
2) Implementation of solutions
adopted to manage time consuming :

• "Time is the rarest capital, and if you don't know how

to manage it, then you can't manage anything else".
(Peter Drucker)
 The time management process will run smoothly if the following rules are respected :

a/ Determination of objectives -motivations •Setting deadlines

•concentration of efforts to achieve the set
goal

b/ planification •Preparation of the work

•Optimal use of available time
•Reduced execution time

c/ Decision-making •Selection of key issues

•Ranking tasks according to their
importance

d/ Organization over time •More productive action

•Focus on core tasks

e/ Control of the work flow •Verification of results

•planned/realized comparison
Determination of objectives
business planning

Planning is the organization of the workflow for defined periods in

the future. Planning aims to ensure the best use of time

Setting Priorities: Eisenhower

• The Eisenhower Matrix, also referred to as Urgent-Important
Matrix, helps you decide on and prioritize tasks by urgency and
importance, sorting out less urgent and important tasks which
you should either delegate or not do at all.

it must generally be dealt with as quickly as possible
The important : The tasks that have an impact on our purpose
and our objectives in life

and a the same time managing parts of the emergency
tasks.
THE BENEFITS OF THIS PRIORITY

Benefits of prioritizing By ranking tasks according to

their priority :

 work only on important and necessary tasks, deal with

things according to their degree of urgency,
 focus exclusively on one task each time,
 to achieve the objectives in the best conduction,
 avoid leaving tasks incomplete.
PLANNING : DECEMBRE 2022

PLANNING : defines the future situation according to the results to

be obtained, with the available resources, the materials and the
personnel one .

Planning principles:
Expected working time (minimum and maximum)
• the cost
• the maximum date of realization
• Mobilized skills (in the case of teamwork)
• the mission leader.
The SMART method :
In English the five letters of the word “SMART” stan
THE SMART METHOD for : «Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic,
and Timely». This method consists of setting
objectives before taking action. And if your goals are
compatible with these five indicators, then they shoul
be achievable and their results are performing well..
