of any Given Plane Figure
in Different Situations
Objectives:
Let’s Review!
Identify the figure described.

1. I am a polygon with four equal sides and four

right angles?
What am I ? ____________

2. I have three sides and three angles? What am

I? ____________
Let’s Review!

“To solve Math problems, you need to

know the basic
Mathematics before you can start
applying it.”
By Catherine Asaro
Let’s Study!
To get started, let us first sing
a song entitled
“The Perimeter Song”

from this link:

https://www.youtube.com/w
atch?v=85scoylaAks
Let’s Study!
Perimeter Song
( Tune Of Farmer in the Dell)
Perimeter is all around

Perimeter is all around
Oh, oh, dont you know
Perimeter is all around
You add up all the sides (4x)
Let’s Study!

As the song goes, we have to

remember that Perimeter is all

around and we simply have to

add all the sides of any given
figure and that is Perimeter
Let’s Study!

Grade 4 – Thoughtful of General

Isidoro Torres is having an
activity about their new lesson

on Perimeter. The teacher ask

the students if they know what
perimeter is?
Let’s Study!
The teacher posted a big square cut-out on
the board. She asked students to trace the
whole square figure. She explained
that the measurement  of the sides of the
square is its perimeter because perimeter is
the distance around a figure. The square has
4 equal sides so the measurement on one
side can be added 4 times or can also be
multiplied by 4 to get its perimeter.
Let’s Study!

Perimeter = s + s + s + s or Perimeter = 4 x s
=6+6+6+6 =4x6
= 24 cm = 24 cm
Let’s Study!

What figure is shown in the illustration?

How many sides does it have?

If we are to get the perimeter of the figure, what do we need
to do?
To get the perimeter of the rectangle we can simply add up all
the sides. Thus, P= 7 + 3 + 7 + 3 = 20 m
So, the perimeter of the rectangle is 20 m.
Let’s Study!

To get the perimeter of the rectangle we can simply add up

all the sides.

Thus, P= 7 + 3 + 7 + 3 = 20 m

So, the perimeter of the rectangle is 20 m.

Let’s Study!

If I am going to build a small house

with a triangular roof
measuring 10 cm on
each side. What
is the perimeter of the roof of
my small house?
Let’s Study!

Perimeter = Side1 + Side2 + Side3 = 10 + 10 + 10 = 30 cm

Let’s Study!
My trapezoidal garden looks like this

Perimeter = Side1+ Side2 + Side3 + Side4

= 9 + 10 + 12 + 8 = 39 m

perimeter. Help Piggy by finding the perimeter of
each house. Then color the largest one.

Measure the Perimeter
of any Given Figure
Using Appropriate Tools
Objectives:
This lesson will help you learn the
art of measuring figures and
objects around us using
appropriate tools
“Measure what can be measured,
and make measurable what
cannot be measured.”

By Galileo Galilei
Let’s Study!
Kate wanted to put a lace
on her handkerchief. She
wanted to find out how much
ribbon she would
  need.
What unit should Kate use to
measure the handkerchief?
What tool would she use?
Let’s Study!

A ruler is used to measure short

objects/distances, such as the length of
a desk.
Let’s Study!

What units can be measured when

you use this tool?

inches

Feet
Centimeters
Let’s Study!

A meter stick measures in inches, feet

or meters. A Football field measures in
meters. You have to  move a meter
stick 120 times to measure the length of
a football field
Let’s Study!

What units can be measured when

you use this tool?

Meters

Miles
Let’s Study!
What tool and unit can Kate
use to measure the perimeter
of her handkerchief?

Is Kate measuring a short

distance or a long distance ?
Let’s Study!

Kate is measuring a short distance.

Kate can measure in inches using her ruler.
Let’s Study!
The measure of her handkerchief is 8
inches long and 6 inches wide. How will
she get the perimeter of
thehandkerchief?

You simply add all the length of

each side of the handkerchief to get the
perimeter.
Let’s Study!

Kate needs 28 inches of ribbon to put around
her handkerchief.
Let’s Study!
The word perimeter has been derived from the Greek
word peri meaning around and metron which means
measure.
Perimeter is the total length of the sides of a shape.

We often find the perimeter when putting up a fence
around a house, finding the total length of the vegetable
garden, the length of the ribbon required to cover a table
mat or the distance covered when you walk around the
rectangular lot three times.
Example No. 1!
A rectangular lot which is 12 meters long and 5
meters wide. What is the appropriate tool I will use?

Example No. 1!
A. What is the measurement of its
sides?
B. What is the distance around the

figure?
C. How were you able to find the
total distance around the figure?
Example No. 1!
D. Can you think of other ways to find
the distance around the figure?
E. What tool can you use in measuring
the figure?

F. If you were to measure the actual size

of your bedroom which tool is more
appropriate to use, is it the ruler or the
meter stick?
Example No. 2!
I have a Scalene Triangle that measures 14
cm, 36 cm, and 30 cm on its sides. What tool
will you use to measure its perimeter?
What is its perimeter?
Example No. 2!

So, 80 cm is the perimeter of the Scalene

Triangle. A ruler can be used to measure
centimeters.
