PRAYER
Heavenly Father, We thank you for all the blessings
received. We ask forgiveness for all the sins committed.
We pray Lord God, that you will send your Holy Spirit to
enlighten us, to give us the wisdom, knowledge and
understanding that we need for our title defense. Guide us
during the presentation of our paper, that we will be able
to present well the result of the study and hopefully
passed successfully. We also pray for the panelists that
they will not make it very difficult to us and enlighten our
understanding that we will be able answer the questions
they will ask. We offer to you oh God the success of our
title defense. Amen

Earth Lamp for the Community: The Potential

of the Soil to Generate Electricity for the
People of Mount Arayat

SIGNIFICANCE OF
THE STUDY
INTRODUCTI
ON
Electricity is one of the needs of people,
they use this in their daily lives that gives them
a convenient lifestyle. According to Denchak
(2018), burning carbon fuels like coal and oil to
generate electricity is one of the threats the
world faces as it contributes to water and air
pollution that leads to global warming.
BACKGROUND OF
THE STUDY

Congruent to this, according to

Castañeda (2018) as of 2017, 25% in the
Philippines use green electricity —
11,633,318 from Luzon, 6,889,270 in
Visayas, and 4,666,147 in Mindanao — they
use renewable resources for their electricity
— such as geothermal, hydropower,
biomass, solar and wind.
BACKGROUND OF
THE STUDY

According to the “Renewable

Resource” (2019) article, soil is a
renewable resource because it can be
replenished through various
processes and can be back in the
human timescale if lost to soil erosion.
BACKGROUND OF
THE STUDY

The performance of MFCs depends on the magnitude

of the electric current generated by the exoelectrogenic
bacteria (Jiang et al., 2016). Specifically, Shewanella
oneidensis and Geobacter are bacteria that eat and
breathe raw electricity (Anderson, 2019); whereby
according to Larsen and Pogliano (2011) Shewanella
oneidensis is mostly found under water and even in soil
microorganisms
BACKGROUND OF
THE STUDY

Copper plays an important role in electricity

as 60% of copper is used in electrical
applications as it causes electrons to flow in
metal (Copper Development Association, 2018).
According to Layton (2020), a construction of
copper and zinc sulphates using soil is referred
to as an earth battery.
BACKGROUND OF
THE STUDY

Also, building power plants is one of their ways of

fighting the electricity crisis. However, other power plants
still promote environmental hazards, particularly those
using fossil fuels, as these can adversely affect
ecosystems and lead to water pollution and animal
extinctions (Nosa, 2017).
RESEARCH GAP

According to Prathipa and Karthikeyan (2015),

eggplant cultivating soil provides enough voltage and
materials that could transmit electricity to light up the
LED lamps successfully, while no electricity was
generated in sugar cane cultivating soil because a
material can transmit electrical energy not enough to
generate energy.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The main objective of this study was to create a prototype device

called EARTH Lamp that generates green electricity. Particularly,
this study seeks answers to the following:

(1)How long will the prototype be operated?

(2) How much voltage was produced by pouring water on
it?
(3) Is EARTH Lamp effective as a soil powered electricity?
SIGNIFICANCEOF THE STUDY

• Farmers. one of their main jobs is agriculture, where the soil plays an
important role in their lives.

• Community. Particularly in Arayat, it can be stepping stone for further

analysis and development of soils potential for electricity.

• Government. With their sufficient power and attention, they may be able to
create a solution to this problem as they explore the potential of this concept for
a solution to large-scale problems of reality.
•Zinc Plate

MATERIALS
• Copper Wire • Plywood • Electrical Wire • 12 Volts LED Lights

• Zinc Plate • Switch • Alligator Clip • Paper Cups
