Flex 3
PZ-11 Data

Flex 3
•Wear in reciprocating equipment results in misalignment of moving parts
•This wear results in a shorter service life and increased costs
METHODS TO EFFECT THE LIFE OF RECIPROCATING PARTS
•Liner flushing coolant that is clean and cool
•Expendable service life that is monitored and managed with accurate records and planned
proactive maintenance
•Effective use of RAMS inspection procedures

Ensure that weir plates are in place, it would

be beneficial to lower the height of this (2nd)

and sedimentation of the wash fluid.

Removal of Super Screw
Valve Cover Retainer
• Unload jack bolts 1/8 to 1/4 round per pass
• Back super screw out of lock ring about half way
• Install hitch pin to use as handle for super screw
• Finish backing super screw out of lock ring
• Turn super screw over and back jack bolts out until flush
or below flush with surface

Lubricate external Acme Valve Cover locking Ring
threads, jackbolt threads and
jackbolt load faces

Flex 3
Lubricate the SuperScrew external Acme threads with an
anti-galling thread lubricant. Molybdenum disulfide is
preferred (see figure 1).
Ensure that all jackbolts are fully lubricated with a
molybdenum disulfide lubricant, Fel-Pro 670, Sweeney
503, or Loctite 51048, and that no jackbolts are extended
beyond the face of the SuperScrew body. Correct
lubricant is very important. Ensure that all jackbolts are
backed-out so their faces are beneath the face of the
SuperScrew.
Examine the internal Acme threads on the valve cover
locking ring (see figure 2). Ensure there are no burrs or
debris in the threads. Install the SuperScrew into the
valve cover locking ring and tighten with a 1 7/8" socket or
wrench, power driven or impact wrenches are not
permitted to run-in the SuperScrew. Tighten until snug
(bottomed out), then back out 1/8 turn

Flex 3
Tighten the 4 jackbolts on the SuperScrew to 100
ft.lbsf. Follow a cross pattern when tightening the bolts
(see figure 4). An air ratchet wrench is acceptable for
use with the jackbolt.
Tighten all the jackbolts to 200 ft.lbsf, (1 round only).
After completing the first round on all 4 jackbolts,
continue following the sequence on each until the
jackbolts are stabilized. An impact or air ratchet may be
used to tighten the jackbolts to approximately 90% of
final torque, with a torque wrench used to apply the final
torque. Do not over torque the jackbolts! Permanent
damage to the SuperScrew may result from excessive
torque on the jackbolts.

Flex 3
Torque sequence is critical to final
success

System (LRS) in Gardner Denver PZ-11
mud pumps

Flex 3
Super Bolt Liner Retention System

Clean both faces of the wear plate, and the gasket counter bore (in
the module) using a light scuff pad (non metallic, not emery cloth)
and a light oil lubricant.
Clean the pilot bore surface with a wire wheel, and lubricate the
cleaned surface with a high-temperature, grease-based, anti-galling
compound (Never Seize, Copper Kote, or similar).

Flex 3
Super Bolt Liner Retention System
Install a new CDI pressure energized (spring supported)
wear plate gasket (GD part # 314PZL316).

Install the wear plate

Install a new CDI pressure energized liner gasket (GD part

# 316PZL316) into the Southwest 1377B liner groove. The
Southwest 1377B liner has an effective bore length of 14.625″.

Insert the liner into the pilot bore, and slide it toward the
module until it makes contact with the wear plate. Slide the
new LRS liner clamp plate over the liner and onto the studs.

Flex 3
Super Bolt Liner Retention System
Apply a grease-based, molybdenum disulfide, anti-galling compound (Fel-Pro
670, Sweeney 503, or Loctite 51048) to the exposed length of the four corner
studs, as well as the load face of the jackbolts and the hardened washer.

Install the hardened washer and Superbolt multi-jackbolt tensioner onto each
of the two upper studs, outboard corners, finger tighten only.

Install an LRS stud extender onto each of the two lower studs, outboard
corners.

Using as much force as you can generate by hand, tighten the stud
extenders against the new liner clamp plate, to hold the liner in place
against the wear plate.

Slide an LRS compression sleeve over each of the two stud extenders.

the liner to get effective torque on it,

position is achieved

Flex 3
Super Bolt Liner Retention System
Install a hardened washer and multi-jackbolt tensioner onto each of the two
stud extenders, to hold the compression sleeves in place.

Starting with the tensioner at the 10:00 position, follow the numbered
positions in sequence. At the 10:00 position tighten the 3 jackbolts to 55
ft.lbs each, using a torque wrench and a 6-point 5/8″ socket.

•Repeat at the 5:00 position, then the 7:00 position, and last the 2:00
position. The sequence and cross pattern is important to help ensure
that the gaskets are squarely loaded.

Flex 3
Super Bolt Liner Retention System

Return to the tensioner at the 10:00 position, and tighten the

jackbolts to 110 ft.lbs each, using a torque wrench and a 6-
point 5/8″ socket.

Repeat at the 5:00 position, then the 7:00 position, and last the
2:00 position. The sequence and cross pattern is important to
help ensure that the gaskets are squarely loaded.

Check all jackbolts to ensure that they are torqued to at least

110 ft.lbs (do not exceed 125 ft.lbs).
