Telling the time

The basics
This is a clock.

• You place a clock on the wall or on a table, like an


alarm clock.
There are two types of clocks…

• Analog clocks (and watches)

• Digital clocks (and watches)


A clock has got a face.
It’s where numbers are placed.
A clock has got hands.
• A long hand that tells us the minutes.

• A short hand that tells us the hour.


Time divisions.
• A day has got 24 hours.
• An hour has got 60 minutes.
• A minute has got 60 seconds.

But a clock’s face has only got 12 positions...

• A complete turn of the clock’s hands marks
only half of the day!
• Some countries say the hour and what
moment of the day. “It’s two o clock in the
afternoon”
• Some other countries add AM (before midday)
or PM (after midday and up to midnight)
