COMPONENTS
OF
COMPUTER
SYSTEM
System Unit
 A central processing unit (CPU) refers
to the electronic device that performs
calculations. The system unit, by
contrast, refers to the plastic or metal
case that holds the CPU and other
hardware. These components work
with other parts such as memory to
enable users to run programs.
Monitor
 It is used to display images,
text, video, and graphics
information generated by a
connected computer via a
computer's video card.
Although it is almost like a TV,
its resolution is much higher
than a TV. The first computer
monitor was introduced on 1
March 1973, which was part of
the Xerox Alto computer
system.
Keyboard
 A keyboard is for putting
information including letters,
words and numbers into
your computer. You press
the individual buttons on the
keyboard when you type.
The number keys across the
top of the keyboard are also
found on the right of the
keyboard. The letter keys
are in the centre of the
keyboard.
Mouse
 The mouse is a small, movable
device that lets you control a
range of things on a computer.
Most types of mouse have two
buttons, and some will have a
wheel in between the buttons.
Most types of mouse connect to
the computer with a cable, and
use the computer's power to
work. Some types of mouse are
wireless.
Automatic Voltage
Regulator
 An automatic voltage
regulator (AVR) is an
electronic device that
maintains a constant
voltage level to electrical
equipment on the same
load. The AVR regulates
voltage variations to
deliver constant, reliable
power supply.
Printer
 A printer is a device that
accepts text and graphic
output from a computer and
transfers the information to
paper, usually to standard-
size, 8.5" by 11" sheets of
paper. Printers vary in size,
speed, sophistication and
cost.
COMPONENT
OF SYSTEM
UNIT
Motherboard
 A motherboard is the main
printed circuit board in general-
purpose computers and other
expandable systems. It holds
and allows communication
between many of the crucial
electronic components of a
system, such as the central
processing unit and memory, and
provides connectors for other
peripherals.
CPU
 A central processing unit, also
called a central processor,
main processor or just
processor, is the electronic
circuitry that executes
instructions comprising a
computer program. The CPU
performs basic arithmetic,
logic, controlling, and
input/output operations
specified by the instructions
in the program.
Memory
 In computing, memory is a device
or system that is used to store
information for immediate use in a
computer or related computer
hardware and digital electronic
devices. The term memory is
often synonymous with the term
primary storage or main memory.
An archaic synonym for memory
is store.
Hard Disk
 A hard disk drive, hard disk,
hard drive, or fixed disk, is an
electro-mechanical data storage
device that stores and retrieves
digital data using magnetic
storage with one or more rigid
rapidly rotating platters coated
with magnetic material
Power Supply
 A power supply provides
components with electric power. The
term usually pertains to devices
integrated within the component
being powered. For example,
computer power supplies convert AC
current to DC current and are
generally located at the rear of the
computer case, along with at least
one fan.
Video Card
 video card, also called
graphics card, integrated
circuit that generates the
video signal sent to a
computer display. The card is
usually located on the
computer motherboard or is a
separate circuit board but is
sometimes built into the
computer display unit.
