Roles of social groups in shaping identities of
individual person
Most groups that we belong to provide us with a positive social identity the
part of the self-concept that results from our membership in a social group. The
more we feel that our identities are tied to our group membership the less likely
we are to leave the group we belong to.

Social identity refers to the ways that people's self-concepts are based on their
membership in social groups. Social identities are most influential when
individuals consider membership in a particular group to be central to their
self-concept and they feel strong emotional ties to the group.
Roles of social groups in shaping identities of
individual person
Personal identity is a sense of who one is, including personality traits, beliefs,
and values. It is how individuals see, think about, and evaluate themselves.
Their initial belief––their perception that they could not pass––led to behavior
that makes the belief become a reality.

Identity refers to people's sense of who they are and the characteristics that
define them. People's sense of identity is closely connected to what they find
meaningful and important.
