and public health practice applied to promote and
protect the health of population. It combines all the basic
elements of professional, clinical nursing with public
health and community practice.

COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSING: -
It is synthesis of nursing practice applied in
promoting and preventing the health of population, the
nature of this practice is general and comprehensive, it is
not limited to the particular age or diagnostic group, it is
continuing not episodes. The dominant responsibility to
the population as a whole there for nursing directed
towards individual, family, group and community.
PRINCIPLES OF COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSING

1.EFFECTIVE HEALTH WORKERS, IRRESPECTIVE OF POSITION


OR PLACE OF WORK, FUNCTION AS A TEAM :-
The basic health team consists of a physician, a nurse or
health visitor, a sanitation or a number of midwives.
The nurse assists in overall planning, action and
evaluation of health programs.

work and that she in turn, give supportive services by
teaching and giving nursing services to the people.

QUALITIES OF COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSE
INTRODUCTION: -
Nursing differs from other profession in its humanitarian
aspects.
The nurse must have interest in people & in understanding
human behavior sincerely & ability to emphasize are basic
qualities required of a nurse.
Minimum essential skills of a nurse are observation,
communication, interviewing, besides supportive &
technical skills.
QUALITIES :-
• EDUCATIONAL QUALITIES: -
• Diploma in general nursing & midwifery should be registered
with state nursing council.
• Acc.To new concept the educational qualifications of a
community health nurse should be: -
• Should have passed a course in general nursing & diploma in
public health of a month’s duration, or university course in
nursing. (B.Sc nursing, post basic b.Sc nursing)

• They have the basic computer skills.
