Parent and their

Offspring

How does a parent

produces a new
organism or
offspring?
Reproduction
-is the process by which living organisms
like humans, animal, and plants form
new individuals of the same kind.
Reproduction
‘’to make new life’’
Reproduction
The ability of an organism to produce
new individuals is one of the
characteristics that distinguish living
things from non living things.
Reproduction

species”

Asexual Reproduction
-is the creation of new organism from a
single or one parent and does not involve
the combination of gametes or sex cells.

Spore Formation

-is a type of asexual reproduction where

organisms reproduce through spores.
Spores

-are the single celled reproductive unit of

non-flowering plants, bacteria,fungi, and
algae
Budding

-a new organism is formed from the

outgrowth from the parent

Binary Fission

-an organism grows and duplicates its

genetic material then divides into two.

Regeneration

It occurs when a body part is detached

from the parent. This part grows and
developed into a completely new
individual.

Vegetative Propagation

It is a method wherein new plants are

obtained from the part of old plants like
stems, roots and leaves with the use of
any reproductive parts.
Vegetative Propagation
Vegetative Propagation

Runner/Stolon
An aboveground stem that grows horizontally
along the surface when the stem touches the
ground. Buds from the stem form roots and
leaves and a new plant develops.
Vegetative Propagation

Rhizomes
An underground stem that grows
horizontally along the surface;
shoots from buds at nodes of the
stem develop into a new plant.
Vegetative Propagation

Tubers

- are enlarged and

thickened underground
stem with buds or eye.
Vegetative Propagation

Bulb
-have a short, underground stem
and thick fleshy leaves that are
colorless. A bulb can reproduce
several smaller bulbs, each of
which can grow into a new plant.
Vegetative Propagation

Corm
It is an enlarged, short
underground stem that stores
food. Corm resembles bulbs but
do not have thick, fleshy leaves.
New corms develop from the stem
of an old corm to produce new
plants.

Vegetative Parts of a Flower

•Petals: This is a bright-coloured part that attracts bees,

insects, and birds..

•Sepals: Sepal is the green-coloured part beneath the petals

to protect rising buds. Some flowers have fused petals-
sepals while a few have separated petals-sepals.
Reproductive Parts of a Flower

•Stamen: This is the male reproductive organ and is also

known as Androecium. It consists of two parts namely: anther
and filaments.
1.The anther is a yellowish, sac-like structure, involved in
producing and storing the pollens.
2.The filament is a slender, threadlike object, which functions
by supporting the anther.
Reproductive Parts of a Flower

•Pistil: This is the innermost part and the female

reproductive organ of a flower which comprises three
parts -stigma, style and ovary. This is collectively known
as the pistil.
1.Stigma: It is the topmost part or receptive tip of carpels
in the gynoecium of a flower.
2.Style: It is the long tube-like slender stalk that connects
the stigma and the ovary.
3.Ovary: It is the ductless reproductive gland that holds a
lot of ovules. It is the part of the plant where the
seed formation takes place.
