Why was Rizal went to Dapitan?
Jose Rizal was arrested by the Spanish authorities on four grounds:
• For publishing anti-Catholic and anti-friar books and articles.
• For having possession, a bundle of handbills, the Pobres Frailes, in which
advocacies were in violation of the spanish orders;
• For dedicating his novel, El felibusterismo to the 3 “traitors”(Gomez, Burgos,
and Zamora) and for emphasizing on the novel’s title page that “the only
salvation for the Philippines was separation from the mother country.(referring
to Spain)
• For simply criticizing the religion and aiming for its exclusion from the Filipjno
culture
Dapitan
• Politico-military outpost of the Spaniards
in the Philippines
• Foremost of Spanish culture, religion and
civilization in Muslim Mindanao.
• Headed by a politico-military
commander and with a parish priest,
tasked with the conversion of the island
into Catholicism.
• Swampy with unplanned streets but his land
was fertile. No potable water, as well as
lighting system, which made the town appear
desolate.
• People dying with different diseases no
proper medical services by the authorities.
• Economy primitive agriculture, with an
undeveloped fishing industry.

• At 1:00 am on the morning , Rizal
was shipped on board the boat
“Cebu” to Dapitan. He was given
good, cabin, but we'll guarded.

In the letter, the superior said that Rizal could stay and live in the house
parish but for the following conditions:

• He publicly retracted his Masonic and Anti-Church beliefs.


• He regularly participate in church rites.

• Therefore, Rizal decided to stay
at the place of Captain Ricardo
Carnicero.

• Rizal wrote a letter to his mother in Hong
Kong about his Exile in Dapitan.

• Rizal created a poem for his commmandant’s
birthday entitled “A Don Ricardo Carnicero”

• Rizal and Carnicero (commandant) won in a lottery. Rizal used
his share in procuring a parcel of land, a property of more
than 10 hectares near the coast of Talisay, a barrio near
Dapitan.
• During his exile, he practiced medicine, taught some pupils
practical subjects, and engaged in farming and horticulture.

- Draco rizali
Overall, Rizal's accomplishments in Dapitan show his
dedication to improving the quality of life of those around
him as well as his variety of abilities and passions. His
contributions to science, medicine, agriculture, and
education have left a lasting impression on the area and
are actual proof of his legacy as a Filipino hero.
