COMPANY PROFILE
Towards the end of the nineteenth century, Sakichi Toyoda invented Japan's first power loom, revolutionising the country's textile
industry. January 1918 saw him create the Toyoda Spinning and Weaving Company, and with the help of his son, Kiichiro Toyoda,
Sakichi fulfilled his lifelong dream of building an automatic loom in 1924. The establishment of Toyoda Automatic Loom Works
followed in 1926.

Sakichi Toyoda Kiichiro Toyoda

With the £100,000 that Sakichi Toyoda received for selling the patent rights of his automatic loom, Kiichiro laid the foundations of
Toyota Motor Corporation, which was established in 1937. One of the greatest legacies left by Kiichiro Toyoda, apart from TMC itself,
is the Toyota Production System. Kiichiro's "just- in-time" philosophy - producing only precise quantities of already ordered items with
the absolute minimum of waste - was a key factor in the system's development. Progressively, the Toyota Production System began to
be adopted by the automotive industry across the world.
After World War II, Toyota benefited from Japan's alliance with the United States to learn from American automakers and other
companies, which would give rise to The Toyota Way (a management philosophy) and the Toyota Production System (a lean
manufacturing practice) that would transform the small company into a leader in the industry and would be the subject of many
academic studies.
In the 1960s, Toyota took advantage of a rapidly growing Japanese economy to sell cars to a growing middle-class, leading to the
development of the Toyota Corolla, which would go on to become the world's all-time best-selling automobile.

ENGINE OVERHAULING
A car engine overhaul is usually done when there are serious problems with a car and its engine. During an
overhaul the entire engine is disassembled and then evaluated of the condition of the internal components
to identify the source of the problems and fix them.
ENGINE OVERHAULING
Overhaul refers to an examination of machinery and the repairs or changes that are made
in response to the condition of the system. A rebuilt engine gets better gas mileage than
your old one and will emit fewer pollutants.
ENGINE OVERHAULING
4 Signs Your Engine May Need An Overhaul
Excessive Oil Consumption
Decreased Performance
Loss of Power
Excessive Exhaust Smoke.
Transmission
 Manual Transmission :Basically, a manual transmission is a gear box that enables the driver to choose between
different gear ratios to drive the car. Lower gear ratios offer more torque, but less speed, while higher gear ratios
offer less torque, but higher speed.

1.There is no clutch pedal in an automatic transmission car.

2.There is no gear shift in an automatic transmission car. Once you put the transmission into drive, everything
else is automatic.
Both the automatic transmission (plus its torque converter) and a manual transmission (with its clutch)
accomplish exactly the same thing, but they do it in totally different ways. It turns out that the way an
automatic transmission does it is absolutely amazing!

Automated Manual Transmission
• AMT or Automated Manual Transmission is mechanically similar to a manual transmission, except that
the sensors and actuators perform the clutch work and shift gears. A car with an AMT does not have a
clutch pedal; there’s only the accelerator and brake pedal. AMT also allows manual gearshifts, when
needed, by pushing forward the gear lever for upshift and pulling it backward for downshift
• Absence of clutch pedal
• Driving mode can be manual or automated

• Pully and Belts are used for transmission

Dual Clutch Transmission

Sitting in the middle ground between an automatic and a manual transmission, the
simplest way of describing their operation, is that they’re an automatically operated
manual transmission – achieved by using two clutches .
Doing away with the torque converter of a normal automatic transmission, they utilise the
traditional gearing methods of a manual - but then split that gearing across two output
shafts to allow power flow to shift between them incredibly quickly.

• Dual Clutch plates are available

• Odd numbered gears are controlled by clutch plate 1 and
even numbered gear is controlled by clutch plate 2

EXHAUST SYSTEM
 Most people know that an exhaust system removes the harmful gases produced in your engine;
however, exhaust systems do a lot more! Your vehicle’s exhaust system has four main functions:
control noise, carry away gases, improve engine performance and improve fuel consumption.
Components of Exhaust System
 Exhaust Manifold
 Muffler
 Catalytic converter
 The Tail pipe
EXHAUST SYSTEM
What does it do?
1. Improve Engine Performance
The longer it takes for exhaust gases to leave your vehicle, the longer it takes to take in oxygen and generate
more power. Having an exhaust system that’s in good working condition, or installing a performance exhaust
system, will allow your vehicle to breathe better and faster – which means more power and better performance!
2. Improve Fuel Consumption
Similar to engine performance, the quicker exhaust leaves your vehicle, the better fuel economy you’ll see
due to the fact that your engine is free to take in more, fresh oxygen. Modern exhaust systems come with an
oxygen sensor that measures how much oxygen is present in the exhaust. From there, more or less fuel can be
added to maximize fuel economy
EXHAUST SYSTEM
1. Control Noise
After the harmful elements have been removed from the exhaust gases, they travel through your vehicle’s
muffler which dampens the sound of the gases leaving the vehicle.
2. Carry Away Gases
Exhaust gases are collected by the exhaust manifold and eventually routed out of the vehicle. The exhaust
manifold acts as a funnel, catching gases from all cylinders and releasing them through a single pipe
CATALYTIC CONVERTER
A catalytic converter uses a chamber called a catalyst to change the harmful compounds from an engine’s
emissions into safe gases, like steam. It works to split up the unsafe molecules in the gases that a car produces
before they get released into the air.
The catalytic converter is located on the underside of a vehicle and looks like a large metal box. There are two
pipes coming out of it. The convertor utilizes these two pipes and the catalyst during the process of making
the gases safe to be expelled.
MUFFLER
They aid in dampening vehicle emission and engine noise. They are made of steel and are coated with
aluminum to provide protection from the heat and chemicals released from the exhaust system. Mufflers are
used mainly to dissipate the loud sounds created by the engine's pistons and valves.

Temperature of The Exhaust
Gases
EXHAUST PIPES

The exhaust system pipes the harmful exhaust fumes away

from the engine and cabin, so that you and your vehicle can
stay safe and functioning. While that's the key purpose, a good
exhaust system will also reduce emissions and make fuel
economy better while making the sound of the engine quiet
METHODOLOGY
CONCLUSION
• The training has provided us with a lot of knowledge and experience about Overhauling an engine, Gear
box etc. The process of overhauling a Toyota Engine or the Gear box involved the techniques of
diagnosing the components for wear and tear, checking the functioning of different elements, diagnosing
sensors, and understanding procedures involved with it. Using tools and Special Service Tools to service is
another addition to our learning.

• Got brief knowledge regarding hybrid technology and its benefits

• Understood the process right from when an automobile enters the service station, inspecting it, servicing,
body wash and how customer satisfaction is attained.
