Fukushima

What Happened?
• The Fukushima nuclear accident resulted in
more than 2,000 deaths.
• On the day, an earthquake and tsunami led to
the power loss in Fukushima Daiichi plant.
• The tsunami was 15 metres long.
• The accident occurred o the 11th of March I
2011.
Short-term consequences
• After the incident, the radiation levels
Increased in food, water ad the ocean.
• May people lost their homes due to the threat
of radiation exposure (they had to evacuate).
• Multiple leaks in the facility occurred after the
incident.
• More than 4 million people lost their
electricity supply.
Long-term consequences
• Chronic physical diseases.
• People who had lost their jobs would worry
about how to earn a living.
• Soil fertility is poor (harder to grow crops).
This creates problems for farmers as they earn
a living from growing crops.
