INTRODUCTION:

What is the
Coronavirus?
According to the World Health Organization
(WHO),A novel coronavirus (nCoV) is a new
strain that has not been previously identified in
humans.
The novel coronavirus is responsible for the
outbreak of disease known as COVID-19. The
disease was first reported from Wuhan, China on
December 31, 2019. Under an electron
microscope the virus looks like spiked rings.
The virus infects the cells in the human body.
Positive impacts of COVID-19 on environment

1. Stimulator of new technologies:

There was an acceleration in remote working, online studying, and business

networking. Ex: Increased demand for Zoom,5G Network.

2. Increase in entrepreneurs:

Interestingly, the pandemic pushed many individuals to experiment and launch

small businesses. Ex: Uber eats , Practo.

3. Restoration of the natural environment:

a. Considerable drop in pollution.

b. Significant drop in carbon dioxide levels.
Positive impacts of COVID-19 on environment

4. Good Opportunity to monitor urban traffic:

With the COVID-19 lockdown transport authorities report up to a 95% decreased
use of public transport.

5. Gain in family time and health benefits:

Confinement during the pandemic encouraged more children to participate in
family activities.
Negative impacts of COVID-19 on environment

1. Global economic damage:

The ‘’Demand’’ for goods declined as consumers changed their habits due to lower
income.

2. Severe drop in tourism:

As countries closed their borders to protect their nations, worldwide travel and
tourism dropped.

3. Reduced Environmental Conservation:

Poaching was increased as poor people looked for ways to get food and money.
Also weed and pest control decreased.

4. Global Food Emergency:

Millions of people were suffered from hunger and many people were dead during
Covid-19.
Negative impacts of COVID-19 on environment

5. Increase in the amount of biomedical waste:

Masks and gloves ‘’clog waterways’’ leading to other effects like flooding. Many of
these wastes contain plastics which are already an environmental issue.

6. Adverse affects on our mental health:

As we were confined to our homes, isolated from co-workers, friends and loved
ones. It increased fear, anxiety, lack of sleep in many people.

7. Inequality in learning:
During the pandemic all the schools were closed down. The education collapsed in
the ‘’families’’ that lack access to technology.
Impacts on Biodiversity conservation
CONCLUSION
• Positive impacts of COVID-19 on environment may be temporary .

• Once the pandemic ends, countries will most likely revive their
economies and Green House Gases (GHG’s) emissions will skyrocket
again.

• Government and individuals should learn from this lockdown on how to

reduce pollution on long term basis.

• Negative impacts of COVID-19 are greater and more continuing.

• Proper measures should be strictly adopted to prevent future pandemics

and other threats.
