Discipleship Evangelism

Class 2
Salvation by Grace
2 Timothy 1:9
(GNB)  He saved us and called us to be his own people, not because of what we have done, but because of
his own purpose and grace. He gave us this grace by means of Christ Jesus before the beginning of time,
2Ti 1:9 who first saved us and then called us to this holy work. We had nothing to do with
it. It was all his idea, a gift prepared for us in Jesus long before we knew anything about it.
This is set forth in the parable of the tax collector and the
Pharisee:
Also He spoke this parable to some who trusted in
themselves that they were righteous, and despised
others: “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a
Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee
stood and prayed thus with himself, ‘God, I thank You
that I am not like other men—extortioners, unjust,
adulterers, or even as this tax collector. I fast twice a
week; I give tithes of all that I possess.’ And the tax
collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise
his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be
merciful to me a sinner!’ Luke 18:9-13
Luke 18:14 I tell you, this man went down to his home justified (forgiven and made
upright and in right standing with God), rather than the other man; for everyone who
exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.
Jas 4:6 / 1Pe 5:5
But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: "God resists the proud, But gives grace to the
humble."
In an eros world , the Gospel is a scandal! It declares to all men and women that they are
loved by God not because of who they are or what they have or have not done, but
because of
who He is!
Gen 4:4 And Abel brought of the firstborn of his flock and of the fat portions. And the Lord had respect and
regard for Abel and for his offering, [Heb. 11:4.]
Gen 4:5 But for Cain and his offering He had no respect or regard. So Cain was exceedingly angry and indignant,
and he looked sad and depressed

“Qayin [Acquired]”

“Hevel [Empty]”
Hebrews 11:4
(GNB)  It was faith that made Abel offer to God a better sacrifice than Cain's. Through his faith he won God's
approval as a righteous man, because God himself approved of his gifts. By means of his faith Abel still speaks,
even though he is dead.
1 John 3:12
(CJB)  and not be like Kayin, who was from the Evil One and murdered his own brother. Why
did he murder him? Because his own actions were evil, and his brother's were righteous.

and the Elder son
Martha and Mary

Luke 10:38-42 As they continued their travel, Jesus entered a

village. A woman by the name of Martha welcomed him and
made him feel quite at home. She had a sister, Mary, who sat
before the Master, hanging on every word he said. But Martha
was pulled away by all she had to do in the kitchen. Later, she
stepped in, interrupting them. "Master, don't you care that my
sister has abandoned the kitchen to me? Tell her to lend me a
hand." The Master said, "Martha, dear Martha, you're fussing far
too much and getting yourself worked up over nothing.
One thing only is essential, and Mary has chosen it--it's the main
course, and won't be taken from her."
1 Corinthians 1:30
(NASB)  But by His doing you are in Christ
Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God,
and righteousness and sanctification, holiness
and redemption,
Therefore, as it is written: "Let him who boasts
boast in the Lord."

The Gospel declares the incredible news that
our relationship to God is not based on “if” and
“then” but rather on “because” and “there
fore.” The Gospel announces that
because He loves us, therefore He is the source
of our salvation and blessing in life, the One
upon whom our faith and hope rest. This
understanding governs our coming to Christ and
every step of walking out our Christian life.
He is just and justifier of

Romans 7:1-4
A LOVE RELATIONSHIP,
NOT A LEGAL RELATIONSHIP

The believer is married to Christ. It is a LOVE RELATIONSHIP not

a LAW (LEGAL) RELATIONSHIP. This love relationship involves
being joined to Christ and in vital union with Him. This is what
Christianity is all about. Christianity is not a RELIGION, it is a
RELATIONSHIP to a Person, the Son of God (John 17:3). It is
not doing something but it is knowing Someone (John 17:3; 1
John 2:3-4). It is not a set of rules and it is not a system of
morality (though rules and morality are involved). It is not a
legal system of "THOU SHALT" and "THOU SHALT NOT." In its
essence it is a unique and intimate and personal relationship
with the only true God and Jesus Christ whom He has sent.

1 Corinthians 2:12
We have not received the spirit of
the world but the Spirit who is
from God, that we may understand
what God has freely given us.
Grace, as it is commonly understood, is God's
unmerited favor deserved favor this

That doesn’t tell us his Nature it should be
Grace is God's divine influence upon our
heart and His expression in and through us.

empowerment of God to enable us to be

that which affords joy

Ephesians 2:4-8
But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His
great love with which He loved us, even when
we were dead in trespasses, made us alive
together with Christ (by grace you have been
saved), and raised us up together, and made us
sit together in the heavenly places in Christ
Jesus,
that in the ages to come He might show the
exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness
toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have
been saved through faith, and that not of
yourselves; it is the gift of God,
Ephesians 2:8-10 The Passion Translation (TPT)

For it was only through this wonderful grace that we believed in him.

Nothing we did could ever earn this salvation, for it was the gracious
gift from God that brought us to Christ! 9 So no one will ever be able to
boast, for salvation is never a reward for good works or human striving.
10
We have become his poetry,[a] a re-created people that will fulfill the
destiny he has given each of us, for we are joined to Jesus, the Anointed
One. Even before we were born, God planned in advance our destiny
and the good works[b] we would do to fulfill it!

Footnotes:
Ephesians 2:10 The beautiful Greek word used here is translated
“poem” or “poetry.” Our lives are the beautiful poetry written by God
that will speak forth all that he desires in life
Ephesians 2:9 (AMP) Not because of
works [not the fulfillment of the Law's
demands], lest any man should boast. [It
is not the result of what anyone can
possibly do, so no one can pride himself
in it or take glory to himself.]
Ephesians 2:8-10 ( MSG)
Saving is all his idea, and all his work. All we do is
trust him enough to let him do it. It's God's gift from
start to finish! We don't play the major role. If we
did, we'd probably go around bragging that we'd
done the whole thing!
No, we neither make nor save ourselves. God does
both the making and saving. He creates each of us
by Christ Jesus to join him in the work he does, the
good work he
We are of God’s “making;” such is the Greek
word for workmanship, Eph_2:10.

work out your own salvation
For it is God who works in you both to will
and to do for His good pleasure.
Hebrews 4:11
Let us labour therefore to enter into
that rest.

Salvation is by grace it’s a gift of God
Gift is not earned Gift is enjoyed
Salvation is gift
The word “salvation” in the Greek language is
“soteria” safety, deliver, health
The word “saved” in the Greek language is “sozo” to
save, deliver or protect, to be made whole (health,
prosperity and peace of mind).
Salvation in the Greek language is SOZO, which means
deliverance, healing, safety, preservation, soundness.
