• Secondary effects
– stem from the primary effects,
example: An earthquake may have collapsed structures as a
primary effects, but fires can break out and electrical lines and
water pipes may be damaged as a resultof collapsed structure.
• Tertiary effects
– long-term effect of a hazard.
example: The permanent relocation of a community due
to an earthquake and the reshaping of a river channel
after an earthquake
