BASIC PLACE SETTING
A great trick to help you remember the order, left to right for a
basic table setting is to just picture the word “FORKS.”
 F for Fork
 O for Plate (the shape)
 R ight of Plate
 K for Knife
 S for Spoon

 Knife blades always face the plate

 Napkins go to the left of the fork, or on


the plate

 Bread and butter plate and knife are


optional

 PROPER EATING
 Chew with closed mouth
 No talking with food in mouth
 No slurping, finger licking, belching or grooming/place
accessories under table or chair
 Pass food, salt, and pepper to the right

 PROPER POSTURE
 No leaning or elbows on the table
 Gentlemen wait for Ladies before sitting, standing
or leaving the table

 HAND FOOD - It is perfectly acceptable to use your hands to eat:


 breads
 ‘hors doers (cheese & crackers, chicken wings, just
to name a few)
 other finger foods (tacos, mini-burgers, egg rolls,
