HISTORY OF NOKIA
y Nokia is a Finland based company, incorporated in 1967. y Nokia started of as a pulp, rubber and cable manufacturing company to a major manufacturer of mobile devices.

NOKIA IN INDIA
Nokia started its operations in India in 1995. Nokia merged with Siemens including handsets and network infrastructure. In 2004, it was chosen for the most respected consumer durables company by Business world. In 2005, Nokia was recognized as the Brand of The Year by the CII for being most preferred by the customers.

Campus Relations
A strong interface between the company and the various B-School Campuses. To ensure sustained engagement they conduct guest lectures,case studies across various campuses.

Campus Relations
The Colosseum The Colosseum is an inter B-school competition organised by Nokia every year. The themes keep varying, depending upon the current business scenario. In 2009-10, teams from across B-schools competed with each other in a business simulation game. Four campuses- IIMA, IIMC, IIML and XLRI were invited to participate. This year s theme was based on N97: the participating teams were asked to present concept and marketing campaign as well as use the blog medium to disseminate knowledge about N97.

Summer Internships
Functions and Campuses Visited: Nokia, over the years, has recruited interns for Sales and Marketing as well as HR functions. Interns were selected from a few premier institutes like IIM- A, IIM-C, IIM-L, XLRI Jamshedpur and TISS, Mumbai. A couple of students were also picked from IIM Ranchi last year.

Summer Internships
Duration: The summer interns undergo internship for a duration of 8 weeks (2 months) Timelines: The pre-placement talks/presentations are held between September and October. Senior business and HR managers visit the campuses and help students understand the opportunities that Nokia offers. The recruitments happen during November.

Summer Internships
Selection Process: After the pre-placement talk, the interested students are asked to apply by submitting their CVs. Based on the overall personality of the students, a shortlist is announced. The selection process consists of a group discussion (optional) and two to three rounds of personal interviews.

The Internship
Structured Process Two day Business Induction at HO (inclusive of market visit). One week to understand the project deliverables and work out the timelines. Mid project evaluations with respective Tutors, Guides and Mentors. Final Evaluations with Indian Management Team at Head Office

The Internship
Management Interactions/ Support Mechanism: Each intern is provided with a Tutor,Guide, Mentor and Buddy for the duration of his internship. Tutor He/she is the person the intern could approach for day to day guidance required for the project. Guide He/she sets the overall direction to the project and takes complete ownership of the project. Mentor This is an IMT member who would be the head of the function in which the intern is working. His role is to be receptive and approachable for the intern and also would help the intern understand the career graph he/she would like to take. Buddy He/she would be from the previous batch of Management Trainees and would help the intern understand the informal do's and don ts within the organisation.

The Project
Real time projects: All projects are live and based on current business needs so needless to say they would all be implementable. Projects are crafted from the work currently being done by managers across Nokia. For e.g., your project may be an implementation of a running project, in which case you will pick up crucial execution skills and learn how processes run on the ground. As the projects are live, meaningful and tightly integrated into the company s operations, you may be working closely as part of a team at Nokia. Examples: 1.Build a framework for Account Based Marketing Plan for select organised trade partners. 2. Identify and quantify the gap in our rural distribution and look at multiple modes of distribution which can help to fill the gap.

Awards & Recognition


Best Summer Intern award Every year, based on the performance during the internship as well as the final recommendations made, two summer interns are awarded with the Best Summer Intern awards. The winner receives a monetary reward as well as recognition from the management team in Nokia.

PPO s
Pre-placement Offers Interns who have performed exceptionally during their internship are given Preplacement Offers or Pre-placement Interviews so that they can join Nokia post their MBA

Selection Criteria
Nokia looks for well-rounded, versatile individuals and selections will consequently be based on a consistent and good academic record, coupled with evidence of achievement and interests in fields beyond academics

Internship Location
Nokia has sales operations across the country and hence a sales intern could be placed anywhere. A marketing intern may also need to travel extensively based on the project brief, although he/she may be stationed in a city. For HR you could be based out of the HO (Gurgaon), any of the Regional offices (Mumbai, Bangalore, Calcutta and Gurgaon), the R & D Bangalore or the Factory (Chennai).

Cross Functional Exposure


The Induction and Buddy program would give you a chance to interact with management across functions. Also the market visits would give you a brief overview of the distribution channels. But for the most part you would be largely given maximum exposure to the functional domain of your project
