EXAMPLE OF DEVIANCE

Deviance
Deviance refers to rule-breaking
behaviour of some kind which fails to
conform to the norms and expectations
of a particular society or social group.
Deviance is closely related to the concept
of crime, which is law breaking
behaviour. Criminal behaviour is
usually deviant, but not all deviant
behaviour is criminal.

Perspective on
Deviance
The other side:
• The areas of deviance and it’s place in society, deviant roles,
and the response of others to deviance, the sociological concept
of deviance, stigma, drug addiction and other deviant cultures
are covered.
• Deviant acts can be assertions of individuality and identity, and
thus as rebellion against group norms of the dominant culture
and in favor of a sub-culture. In a society, the behavior of an
individual or a group determines how a deviant creates norms.
