• Conduct electricity and


react with metals to create
hydrogen gas.

• Turns blue litmus red

• Taste sour
What are alkali

• A base is a substance which dissolves in


water to produce (oh-) in the solution

• Bases soluble in water are called alkali

• Turns red litmus to blue

• Taste Bitter
