RESEARCH TITLE:

K-12 CURRICULUM:THE PERCEPTIONS OF PARENTS AND

THE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS REGARDING THE
IMPLEMENTING OF K-12 CURRICULUM.
RESEARCH AIM

The purpose of this study is to determine the impact of the K-

12 Curriculum (whether positive or negative effects) to the
parents, and to the Senior High School Students of La
Hacienda National High School.
RESEARCH QUESTIONS
• What are the advantages and disadvantages of the K-12 program or the
additional 2 years to Basic Education?
• Will the parents agree or disagree to the K- 12 program?
• What are the good impact of K-12 Curriculum to the Senior High School
Students?
• What are the common problem faced by Senior High School Students?
INTRODUCTION
The K to 12 Program covers Kindergarten and 12 years of basic education (six years of
primary education, four years of Junior High School, and two years of Senior High School
[SHS]) to provide sufficient time for mastery of concepts and skills, develop lifelong
learners, and prepare graduates for tertiary education, middle-level skills development,
employment, and entrepreneurship.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
A traditional educational system constitutes 10 grades as compared to 12 in the k to twelve
program. The additional years create obstacle in working earlier, which means a student
starts to earn at a time succeeding few years of technical course. K-12 might prove
unsuitable for the poor children, who need to give an earning hand to their parents at a young
age. Also, students stay in dilemma regarding their career and keep changing courses.

THEORIES

• There are many theories about the implementation of k-12 curriculum. One theory is that
curriculum should be designed to meet the needs of each individual student, allowing for a
personalized learning experience.
• Another theory suggests that curriculum should be designed to foster inquiry-based learning,
allowing students to explore topics in depth and develop critical thinking skills.
• Parents have mixed feelings about the implementation of k-12 curriculum. Some feel that it
provides more opportunities for their children to learn, while others worry that the increased
workload and expectations may be too much for their children. However, the majority of
parents agree that the k-12 curriculum has the potential to help their children develop the
skills necessary for success in the future.
