Graphing Polynomials

Using Zeros, End behavior,

and Multiplicities
Objective

To be able to graph polynomials using Zeros,

End Behaviors, and Multiplicities
New Vocabulary
+5x+6
(X + 3) (X +2)
 Zeros: the x-intercepts
We find them by factoring the polynomial
+5x+6
and then, setting each X = 0 (X + 3) (X +2)

 Leading Coefficient: is the coefficient at

the beginning of the polynomial.

Example: Y = 2 (x – 2) (x + 5)
 Multiplicities: How many times each

zero occurred (each zero’s Power)

Example: Y = 2 (x – 2)^2 (x + 5)
Graph Behavior based on Multiplicities
Graphing Polynomials

Y= 2 (x – 2) ( x + 3) (x – 4)

Find Zeros:

End Right Behavior: Sign of the Leading Coefficient

End Left Behavior: Power of the Polynomial

Multiplicities
Graphing Polynomials

Find Zeros:

End Right Behavior: Sign of the Leading Coefficient

End Left Behavior: Power of the Polynomial

Multiplicities
Recap
1- Find the zeros and plot them on x-axis
2- Find the right end behavior based
on the sign of the leading coefficient
3- Find the left end behavior based on the
power of the polynomial
4- Find the multiplicity of each zero
and graph the corresponding shape
