Definition of Long Jump

The long jump is one of the numbers in the athletics

category of jumping. The main goal of the long jump
is to get as far as possible.

Long jumps are forms that are shown forward by

jumping on one leg to reach an attainable distance.
The jump distance starts from the jump fulcrum to the
first trace in the sandbox from the start.

History
Long jump originated around 13 centuries ago. This sport has existed since 708 AD when there was the
Ancient Olympics in Greece. The emergence of the long jump sport is believed to train the agility of the
war soldiers in breaking through existing obstacles, such as ravines or ditches. At that time, the jumpers
were required to run with a load in both hands known as dumbbells weighing 1 to 4.5 kg.

The long jump was once performed by a jumper from Sparta with a jump record of 7.05 meters. In the
modern world, the long jump has been a part of Olympic competition since it first appeared in 1896.
Finally, in 1914, Dr. Harry Eaton Stewart recommended creating a standardized running broad jump for
female athletes so that they too could hold long jump competitions. These recommendations are
considered and implemented so that female athletes are able to participate in long jump competitions at
Olympic level. Although this sport was part of the ancient Olympic games, it was not until 1896 that the
first modern Olympics were officially contested and the women's only started in 1948.
Technique
1. Prefix Technique
The very first process in doing the long jump.
As for what is meant by the prefix technique is
to run fast about 20-30 meters.
This technique is done to provide energy or
encouragement when jumping later. An athlete
must take advantage of the momentum of this

sprint to get a long jump.

Technique
2. Rejection or Jumping Technique
After doing the prefix technique, the next thing
to do is jump. The jump is done using only one
foot as a foothold. Meanwhile, the foot that is
used as a foothold is the strongest (dominant).
Jumping using a two-footed base will only hold
the body to move further. When jumping, try to
synergize with your running speed and the
strength of the other leg to make it look like
you're stepping on air.
Technique
3. Floating Technique
After making a jump, the body will be in the air. To be able
to create a long jump, the technique of flying while in the
air must also be a concern. Generally, there are three styles
of hovering that can be applied.
The first is the squat style to create an aerodynamic position
in order to reach a longer distance. The second is the flying
style with a straight body position forward. However, to do
this style requires a good balance.
Meanwhile, the third style is walking in the air by swinging
the legs to create a longer jump momentum. To be able to
master these three styles requires regular practice. In
addition, the body must be accustomed to being flexible.
Technique
4. Landing Technique

Landing technique must be applied correctly to

avoid injury. Because, the body will experience a
fairly hard impact with the landing location.
Especially after running fast and doing maximum
repulsion.

When landing, both feet must be in a position close

together. Its function is to reduce shock to the feet
and knees. Also, try not to land on your buttocks as
this can cause serious injury.
