Childhood and adolescence

On July 24,1897 in Atchison


(Kansas), the great and beautiful
Amelia Mary Earhart Otis was
born.

Amelia was the daughter of the


lawyer Samuel ¨Edwin¨Stanton
Earhart and his wife Amelia Otis
who belonged to an important
family in the region.

At the age of 10, her father took her


to the state fair to see the model
airplanes that were on display
there, but at that moment, Amelia
was not interested.

Lived in different cities, first in


Iowa, then Minnesota and later in
Missouri.

Amelia studied zoology, biology and


chemistry at Columbia University
and completed her training at
Harvard University summer
courses.
