What is
DNA?
DNA is an organic compound with a complex molecular structure
that can be found in many viruses and all prokaryotic and
eukaryotic cells. For the purpose of transmitting inherited traits,
DNA encodes genetic information.
What are Chromosomes?
Chromosomes are thread-like structures located inside
the nucleus of animal and plant cells. Each chromosome
is made of protein and a single molecule of DNA. Passed
from parents to offspring, DNA contains the specific
instructions that make each type of living creature
unique.
Who discovered
DNA?
In 1953, James Watson and Francis Crick discovered the structure of DNA.
They worked out the structure by assembling data from past
experiments and using it to build a molecular model. Their DNA model was
made from wire and metal plates, much like the plastic kits students use
in organic chemistry classes today.
Who discovered Chromosomes?
It's generally recognized that chromosomes were first discovered by Walther
Flemming in 1882.
