NETWORKING
Device Level Networking
Distributed I/O systems are made of small field devices with a wide range of I/O
options connected via specialized networks.
These can include digital and analog channels, temperature measurements, etc.
Linked with PLC’s they allow for a control network that requires PLC, sensor and
networking knowledge to work with.

Device Network
•The DeviceNet network is an open device level network that
provides connections between simple industrial devices (such as
sensors and actuators) and higher-level devices.
•DeviceNet is a flexible network that works with devices from
multiple vendors offering a wide variety of both Rockwell
Automation and third party vendor products.
•This is a distributed IO system.

Open Standard
•DeviceNet is an open network standard based on CAN
(Controller Area network). The specification and protocol are
open.
• Excessive bending of DeviceNet cables can reduce their ability to meet the
DeviceNet specification. Standard thick cables shall have a bending radius
of greater than 3" ( 75mm). Standard Thin cables shall have a bending
radius of greater than 2" (50mm).

IO Link
IO-Link is the first
standardized IO
technology
worldwide (IEC
61131-9) for the
communication
with sensors and
also actuators.
