Introduction
Fire safety refers to precaution that all taken to prevent
or reduce the likelihood of a fire.
That may result in death, injury or property damage.
To reduce the damage by a fire accident.
Alert those in a structure to the presence of a fire in the
event one occur, better enable those threatened by a
fire to survive.
Emergency action plan training
Need to assure that an adequate number of employees
are available at all times during working hours to act as
“evacuation wardens” so that employees can be swiftly
moved from the danger location to safe areas.
They must know the correct place to direct employees,
trained in workplace layout and alternative routes,
aware of handicapped employees who may need extra
assistance, check all rooms and enclosed spaces for
employees, an account for or verify that all employees
are in the safe areas.

Talking with patients and families/visitors about fire
hazards related to smoking.
Assessing smoking behaviors.
Help all staff to be alert to any obstruction to fire
exits/fire routes.
Know where the fire extinguishers are located.
To use one:
* P: Pull the pin
* A: Aim low
*S: Squeeze the lever
*S: Sweep the fire
Fire prevention measures
DO’S
All electrical equipment should be in conformity with relevant
Indian standard.
All vertical shaft's /ducts for drainage pipes , plumbing wiring
and cabling etc should be sealed at each floor.
Fire detection alarm system should be provided.
A stand by emergency power supply should be provided to cater
to fire like water pump, other emergency system for fire fighting.
Train all employee in fire prevention, fire fighting and emergency
response.
Conduct periodic emergency drill.
DON’TS
In case of fire don’t panic sound the alarm.
In case of fire never use elevators
Never re enter the building in case of fire.
Never store solvents and fuels indoors.
Never delay calling the fire and rescue service.
In case of fire never hide in a cupboard or under the
bed.
Never jump from an upstairs window in case of fire.
Fire protection
Keys to success:
* a clear plan.
* employee education and practice.
* awareness of fire exits and use/location of fire
extinguishers.
* awareness/abatement of potential fire hazards.
