Evolving Concept:

▪ 1960s: “Development is not just economic growth, it is growth plus change.”

What are the Sustainable Development Goals?
• The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are
targets for global development adopted in September 2015,
set to be achieved by 2030. The global community has agreed
to work towards achieving these goals.

• The 17 Sustainable Development Goals are defined through a


list of 169 SDG targets. Progress towards these targets are to
be tracked

• Each group will be given a caselet to analyze. Guide


questions for discussion will be provided. The groups will be
given 20 minutes to discuss

• Selected groups will be asked to share their small group

Performance in SDG10 - Equality
Gini Index: Measures income inequality and ranges from 0-100
(0 representing perfect equality and 100 as perfect inequality)

2010: The Philippines had one of the highest inequality rates (44) among
ASEAN countries
2015: Phil Gini Index was 44.6, Malaysia (41.1), Botswana (53.3), Kenya (40.8),
Tajikistan (34.0)
2018: Phil Gini Index was 42.3, higher than Vietnam (35.7), Mongolia (32.7),
and Lao PDR (38.8)
