Multiplying

of
Polynomials
PRESENTED BY:AIVER B. BELGA
Our topic for today is
all about the
Multiplying of
Polynomials.
At the end of this lesson you
are expected to understand
how to multiply
polynomials.
REVIEW
SUBTRACTION OF POLYNOMIALS
What are the things we need to
remember in subtracting
polynomials?

C – Change the sign of the subtrahend
and proceed to the addition rule.
C – Combine like terms.
A – Add the numerical coefficient.
C – Copy the same literal coefficient.
UNSCRAMBLE the letters to form a word
from our previous lessons.
1. PLMIONAOLY
2. NILOABIM
3. MRET
4. OAMINLTRI
5. EREGDE
6.LOAOINMM
7.ILNMTMLUAIO
Rules in Multiplying Polynomials.
1. Monomial by monomial – To multiply
monomial by another monomial, simply
multiply the numerical coefficient then copy
the same variable and add the exponent .

Remember your product rule in
multiplying integers.
1. If you multiply two similar or like sign the
answer is always positive.

2. If you multiply two unlike sign the answer is

always negative.

Rules in Multiplying Polynomials.
1. Monomial by polynomial – To multiply a
monomial by polynomial with more than one
term, simply apply the distributive property
and follow the rule in multiplying a
monomial.

3. Binomial by binomial – To multiply a
binomial by binomial, simply distribute the
first term of the first binomial to each term of
the other binomial then distribute he second
term to each term of the other binomial and
simplify the results by combining similar
terms
F – First Terms
O – Outer Terms
I – Inner Terms
L – Last Terms

How about we do it in a word
problem?

The length of the rectangle is (2x

- 3) and the width is (x + 7). Find
the area of the rectangle.
.

APPLICATION
If you multiply (2x +3) and
(x-7) using FOIL Method.
