Coordinated Functions of Nervous

System
Nervous System

• The nervous system is a network of nerves that

connect the spinal cord and the brain to the rest
of the body and allow a stimulus-response
reaction to occur among different organs.

There are two major sections of the nervous system:

• Central Nervous • Peripheral Nervous

They serve as a control system
that dictates all voluntary and
involuntary actions performed
by body.

Central Nervous System

• The main function of the central nervous

system is to receive, process, interpret, and
send information through the electrical
signals.

The human central nervous system
consists of two main parts: the brain
and the spinal cord.

7
Brain

• It reads information and controls all the functions

of the human body with the help of nerves and
neurons.
• The brain consists of three main parts: the
forebrain, the midbrain, and the hindbrain.

8
Spinal Cord

• Responsible for transmitting the electrical

signals from the brain to the nerves that
extend to different parts of the body.

Peripheral Nervous

10
Peripheral Nervous System

• Two major divisions: the somatic

nervous system and the automatic
nervous system.

11
Somatic Nervous System

• It is also known as the motor system. It

controls the motor neurons for voluntary
functions.

04/09/2023
12
Automatic Nervous System

• It consists of peripheral nerves that function

involuntarily.

04/09/2023
13
Nerve cells called neurons carry out
the main functions of the nervous
system.

14
Neurons

• Neurons are the fundamental units of the nervous

system. These are cells that translate external
stimuli into electrical signals transmitted into the
brain where the delivered information is
interpreted.

15
There are three main sections
of neurons: soma, dendrite,
and axon.

16
Neurons have three main
classifications which serve
individual functions for each
section of the nervous
system.

17
Sensory Neurons

•Allows you to perceive your

surroundings through sight, hearing,
smell, taste, and touch.

04/09/2023
18
Interneurons

•Translate the information between

sensory neurons and motor neurons.

04/09/2023
19
Motor Neurons

•These neurons mobilize a person and

enable physical changes in the body.

The nerve cell, or neuron,
is the key player in the
activity of the nervous
system. It conveys
information both
electrically and chemically.
