society. The expressway will be designed for an average speed of 120km/hr.
● Employment opportunity to people
● Development of local industry, agriculture and handicrafts
● Development of tourism and pilgrimage
● Quick Transportation of processing and marketing of perishable agricultural produce
● Increased Road Safety
● Reduction in pollution due to less emission as there will be free flow of traffic.
● Better approach to Medical & Educational services and quick transportation of perishable goods like
fruits, vegetables and dairy products
● Improved quality of life of the area etc.

Environmental Management Plan
● A capital cost provision of about Rs. 66.42 Crore has been kept towards
implementation of environmental management plan.

● A capital cost provision of about Rs. 35.05 Crore has been kept under Corporate
Environment Responsibility (CER) for implementation of various activities for
overall improvement of environmental and ecological conditions of the project
area.

10
SOCIAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT
● The social impact assessment and Resettlement Action Planning component has
following elements:
● Enumeration of affected properties and baseline socio-economic survey of the
potentially affected Families;
● Consultations with stakeholders at various levels;
● Preparation of a time-bound Resettlement Action Plan (RAP).

LAND ACQUISITION AND PROJECT IMPACT

Commercial, residential, and agricultural areas would be affected. Greenfield motorway
land requirements are projected at 710.3247 Hectares. The social evaluation also shows that
51 villages are inside the expressway's proposed RoW and many pucca/kutcha buildings,
mostly residential, are impacted.
11
SUMMARY AND CONCLUSION
● The Mumbai–Ahmedabad Route in western India is an important transit
corridor. Mumbai, the financial centre of India, and Vadodara, a major
commercial and business hub, flank this corridor. This corridor has several
textile, gem, and jewellery, petrochemical, and fertiliser companies. SEZs and
ports use this corridor. NH-8 is crucial for Delhi-Mumbai transit.
● Traffic headed towards JNPT, Nagpur, and Pune will use SPUR instead of
travelling through Mumbai city. As a result, the city's traffic congestion and
pollution will decrease.
● Due to reduced traffic on NH-48 (Old NH-8), NH-3, and NH-222, the area will
be safer, less polluted, and have more employment possibilities, all of which will
contribute to regional economic growth.
12
SUMMARY AND CONCLUSION
Environmental Impacts: The proposed greenfield expressway will have impacts on
the environment during construction and operation phase as summarized below:
● Blockage of natural surface water runoff due to construction embankment
● Permanent change of existing land use pattern due to acquisition of approx.
710.3247 ha private / government land
● Impact on ecology & biodiversity due to diversion of approx. 191.5894 ha forest
land and falling of approx. 69,095 no. of trees
● Impact on surface water bodies (2 Ponds shall be fully affected and 2 partially)
2393 land units /plots (private & government) and 895 structures including 717
private structures will be affected due to the project.

13
SUMMARY AND CONCLUSION

Mitigation Measures: Conserving and managing ecosystems reduces highway

construction impact. Maintaining natural flows of rivers, streams, drainage networks,
etc. without modifying highway gorge also conserves ecology. Below are mitigation
strategies:
● 90,899 no. of trees and 49,408 no. of hedges have been proposed to be planted
under greenbelt development plan.
● A budget of Rs. 2.55 Crore earmarked under CER for fruit sapling distribution
and plantation of mangrove species.
● The proposed expressway does not pass through any National Park, Wildlife
Sanctuary, Conservation Reserve and Community Reserve, hence no direct
impact is envisaged
