ROADMAP TO CERTIFICATION

Celebration Points on My Way to Certification

 I am planning to take the CBEST at the end of October. Passing this exam will allow me apply for a
30-day substitute teacher permit. This will enable me to gain teaching experience before I begin
my Clinical Practice I&II.

 The Subject-Matter Competence CSET exam and the Reading Instruction Competence Assessment
RICA are required for both: program completion and CTC certification. Meeting these requirements
will ensure I can continue along my path to certification without delays.

 Once I earn my Preliminary Education Specialist Credential and MAE, I can begin working as a
Special Education teacher. In addition, this will allow me to begin a two-year CTC - approved
induction program to clear my credential.

 Earning my Preliminary
Education Specialist
 Passing the Multiple Credential and MAE
Subject CSET exam and
the RICA assessment

 Passing the CBEST

exam

ROADMAP TO CERTIFICATION

Setbacks on My Way to Certification and Ways to Get

Back on Track
 If I fail on my first attempt to pass the CBEST at the end of October, I will have to
wait 45 days before I can retake that exam. I am planning on taking individual
sections rather than all three at once to give myself more time and better chance
of passing the second attempt.
 If I am not able to secure an “observation” placement for my Clinical Practice I&II
at a local or nearby school, I will reach out to my Credential Analyst and request
for assistance. I will also work with an Accountability and Compliance Officer on
the MOU Request Form in advance to ensure I can have my “student teaching”
during CP III&IV at the school of my choice.
 In order to proceed with CP III&IV I need to pass the CSET Multiple Subjects
before Aug 16th, 2021. I am planning on taking that test way in advance to ensure
that even if I fail on my first attempt, I have time to retake it before the deadline.

 RICA is a program and state required assessment I fear most. If I fail on

passing after I complete the coursework outlined in my Master Study
Plan, I will have to enroll in an Advanced Mentoring I unit course, and
then try to retake it.
 There is a possibility I won’t be able to meet all program and state
requirements within the deadlines according to my current MSP, but I
can always contact my Academic Advisor and the Credential Analyst in
order to discuss possible options and make adjustments as needed to
ensure successful completion of the program on my way to
certification.
