RAISING
Animal raising
Is a popular backyard business, as well as
means of livelihood of Filipino families. It is one of
the most important industries in our country today.
Animal Raiser
Those people in the community whose
occupation is to raised four legged animals.

Fish farmers
Those who are engaged in fishing.
Why do people raise animals?

• Some people take care of animals in order to have food to consume or to sell.
• There are many products that can be made/ taken from animals that can be sold
in the market.
• Animal manure is a good source of fertilizer for vegetables, ornamental fruits
and fruit trees.

Raising Pig
• Pig need a dry, secure place to live that will them from
the weather and provide enough space to move around.
Some people claim that a full grown pig only needs about
20 square feet space. However, for a truly healthy pig,
you should allot each pig about 50 square feet space.
Raising Cow

Provide fresh, clean calf starter, milk replacer and water


everyday. Make sure you offer water at least twice daily.
Place these outside the pen to reduce urine and manure
contamination. This will also keep spilled liquid water
away from the calf’s bedding. They only eat grass everday.
Raising Goat
A goat house must be built to provide shelter.
Goathouse must be well ventilated and drained, and easy
to clean. Flooring must be provided and elevated at least
15 degrees to facilitate cleaning and drainage. Separate
pens must be provided for lactating and dry does , kids,
growers, and bucks.
Fish raising
It is a form of aquaculture in which fish are raise in
enclosures to be sold as food.
Bangus or milkfish

It is the main aquaculture product in the Philippines. It can


survive in confined fresh or salty water fish pens and marines cages.
They are grown as a source of food. Their meat is tasty.
Tilapia
Tilapia don’t ask for much. In fact they only have five basic
needs: clean water, oxygen, food, light and room to swim. Give
your tilapia these things and they will stay healthy and grow fast.
HARVESTING / CAPTURING ANIMALS
Harvesting of animals and fish are done on different
indicators such as animal size, weight and number of
months raised. Farmers sometimes harvest their animal /
fish as the need arises. Four-legged animals like cow, goat
and pig indicators largely rely on on actual observation of
the farmers to their animals being raised or grown.
