Digital photographers have learned their Photoshop basics fast.
They began by getting familiar with the tool bar and various
palettes. They learned how to select portions of a photo or a
scanned image. The options they were given are the lasso tool,
the marquee tool, the magic wand, or the extract tool. They
learned ways to mask areas with the masking layer. They
learned that layers are the magic of Photoshop.
