DIRECTION OF

PREVAILING WINDS
Direction Of Prevailing winds
•The prevailing wind is the most frequent wind direction a location
experiences. The prevailing wind systems n the Philippines are:

• 1) Northeast (NE) monsoon from November to February,

• 2) Southwest (SW) monsoon from July to September, and

• 3) trade winds for the rest of the year.

• The Northeast Monsoon features cool and dry air, so
it brings less rain. The humidity is also low and the
sunshine is milder. Northeast monsoon contributes
to colder Chrimas nights in the Philippines. However,
if the northeast monsoon happens to meet the warm
and moist air associated with tropical cyclones,
windy and rainy weather usually follows.
• The Southwest monsoon monsoon brings heavy
rains and tropical cyclones to mmany parts of the
Philippines from May to October.
• The trade winds or easterlies are the permanent
east-to-west prevailing winds that flow in the Earth's
equatorial region. Trade winds generally tend to
continuously remove humidity from the areas
around the tropics. This is why the months of March
and April are relatively dry in the Philippines.
