OBJECTIVES
At the end of this session, participants are expected to:
1. Define the meaning of a Leader,
2. Characteristics of a good leader
3. Identify the 5 traits of a positive leadership
4. Identify 5 ways you can influence positive
change at work and in life

What is a LEADER?

 The person who leads or commands a group


organization
 Has a vision and leads the group towards a
common goal that needs to be achieved
Who is a Leader?

 Is a person who guides others toward a


common goal, showing the way by example,
and creating an environment in which other
team members feel actively involved.
Leadership Building Activity

• Describe and choose the Leaders You Admire


Most
- this activity will make participants divided into
groups
- discuss the leaders they know and give reason why
they admire them
- the divided groups will then regroup for a larger
discussion and communication session at the end
Characteristics of a Good Leader

1. They have high self - awareness and


prioritize personal development.
2. They maintain the focus on developing
others.
3. They always encourage strategic thinking,
innovation, and action.
4. They are ethical and civic minded
WHAT IS MEANT BY POSITIVE LEADERSHIP?

 Positive leaders create a healthy culture and


environment that retains performance and
outcomes in the face of persistent challenges.
 By creating a positive work environment built
upon personal relationships, a leader can
encourage their employees to want to work for
them.
What is positive influence?

 Positive influence is the impact


you have on other people or
yourself by pointing out your
strength and virtues.
What is positive influence leadership?

 Positive influence - relies on giving clear


expectations and directions
 Team members have no doubt about what is
expected of them and what they can do to
achieve their goals
 They understand what tools are esential for
delivering the best results and the time
constraints that shape their tasks
What is positive influence in the workplace?

 In the workplace, being a positive influence


means a lot more than just being optimistic
 By being a positive influence at work, you
contribute ideas and encourage you co-
workers to do the same , making an impact
that improves the lives and attitudes of people
around you
What is an example of positive influence in Leadership?

 A leader may draw their past experiences to


influence others if they believe it to be of value
to the group
For example, A team may need support to
complete an upcoming project on time
A positive influence is someone/something that affects another person in a positive way

 Family members who care about you and


respect your choices
 Friends who accept you for who you’re
 Teacher and other adults who care enough
about you to help you succeed
 A coach who shares his/her vision and
experience
5 TRAITS OF A POSITIVE LEADER

1. CHARISMA
 A lot of time an employee is not buying into
the success or efficiency of the organization,
or how it operates,
 It is the Charisma that taps into that
emotional and compelling attractiveness of the
leader.
2. FOCUSES ON DEVELOPMENT

 Positive leaders are highly characterized by


the emotional and positive influence they utilize
to encourage employees to be a better version
of themselves than they were before their
relations with the leader.
 Progression and individual growth can
considerably affect self - esteem, confidence,
and willingness to succeed.
3. ROLE MENTOR

 The mentorship approach provides


significant opportunities to foster personal
growth in employees.
 Being in a position of influence, a leader
should provide the advice and trust a credible
mentor should.
4. THE ABILITY TO LISTEN AND LEARN

 The most positively influential leaders are humans.


 They take time to listen to concerns and are willing
to learn and grow themselves.
 Being able to connect to a leader’s interpersonal
side is a comforting sign for any employee.
 From a position of influence, creating things
together and sharing responsibility are the things
that make employees feel valued.
HONESTY

 Positive relations are built on trust.


 If you do not trust a leader, you will no longer be willing
to cooperate with them.
 An honest leader will have a positive influence on their
team.
 It is common to see leading figures in our society losing
trust. This affects their credibility, popularity, and
sometimes their position.
 This is the same in any form of leadership.
