Main Functions of United Nation

● AIMS TO PROTECT HUMAN RIGHTS AND PROVIDE


HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE WHEN NEEDED.

PEACEKEEPING FORCE
- Peacekeeping has proven to be one of the most
effective tools available to the UN to assist host
countries navigate the difficult path from conflict to
peace.
● There are three basic principles that continue to
set UN peacekeeping operations apart as a tool
for maintaining l peace and security.

- Consent of the parties

- Impartiality

- Non-use of force except in self-defence and

- defence of the mandate


● Security Council

● The functions and powers of the Security Council are:

- to maintain international peace and security in


accordance with the principles and purposes of the
United Nations;
- -to investigate any dispute or situation which might lead
to international friction;
- to recommend methods of adjusting such disputes or
the terms of settlement;
- to formulate plans for the establishment of a system to
regulate

- established on 1945 under Charter it is main


deliberative, policymaking and representative organ of
United Nation

- provides a unique forum for multilateral discussion

● The UN General Assembly plays a significant role
in the process of standard setting and the
codification of international law.

● Assembly’s six main committees:


- First Committee (Disarmament and International
Security)

- Second Committee(Economic and Financial);


- Third Committee (Social, Humanitarian and
Cultural);

- Fourth Committee (Special Political and


Decolonization);

- Fifth Committee (Administrative and Budgetary);

- Sixth Committee (Legal).

● The assembly meets in regular session intensively


from September to December each year .
