WHAT IS A CYCLONE?
• Cyclone is a system of winds rotating inward at high speed with an area of low
pressure in the middle.
• A cyclone is formed when the warm, moist air rises upward over the
ocean.
• Cyclones are known by different names in different areas. In the Indian
Ocean, they are simply known as Cyclones, In the western pacific ocean it
is known as typhoons, near western Australia it is known as Willy Willies
and in the northern pacific ocean, they are known as Hurricane.

• Severe Cyclonic Storm Agni was a tropical cyclone of 2004
• North Indian Ocean cyclone season not able to its record proximity to the
ocean cyclone equator
• It was the second North Indian to receive a name, after Onil earlier in the
year.
• Agni formed on November 28 well to the southwest of India in the Arabian
Sea, and steadily intensified as it tracked northwestward.
TYPHOON HAIYAN

• Typhoon Haiyan was one of the largest and strongest typhoons ever recorded
• . It had winds that reached 195 miles per hour.
• Typhoons, like hurricanes, are powerful swirling cyclones
• The rainfall led to over 600 mudslides throughout the mountainous regions of
Japan and flooded more than 22,000 homes; 42 people died throughout the
country, with another 71 missing and 283 injured. River embankments broke in 70
places, destroying 27 bridges, while about 105 dikes were destroyed
THE BHOLA CYCLONE

• The 1970 Bhola cyclone was a devastating tropical cyclone that struck East
Pakistan and India's West Bengal on November 11, 1970.
• It remains the deadliest tropical cyclone ever recorded and one of the world's
deadliest natural disasters. wind speed: 240 km/
• Hotel fatalities: 5,00,000
• Damage: 6697080000.00 Rupee.
CYCLONE OCKHI
• Very Severe Cyclonic Ockhi was a strong tropical cyclone
 
• That devastated parts of Sri Lanka and India in 2017 and
was the most intense tropical cyclone in the Arabian Sea
 since Cyclone Megh in 2015. 
• There was a lot of wastage of crops in this cyclone that’s
why most of the farmers were affected due to this cyclone.

CYCLONE TAUKTAE

• The first cyclonic storm of 2021 emerged from the Arabian Sea.
• It hit southern Gujarat in 1998 and is classified as a Very Severe Cyclonic
Storm.
• A deadly tropical cyclone that killed at least 10,000 people in India.
• Western states are most affected by this

WHAT IS AN EARTHQUAKE ?
• An Earthquake is a sudden shaking or trembling of the earth which
lasts for a very short time. It is caused by a disturbance deep inside
the earth’s crust. Earthquakes occur all the time, all over the planet.
• Earthquake can cause. floods, landslides, and tsunamis.
• A major tsunami occurred in the Indian Ocean on 26 December
2004.
KANGRA EARTHQUAKE
• Knagra earthquake that occurred on 4 th April 1905.
• It was the most lethal earthquake in India.
• This Earthquake is of 7.9 magnitude 
• Which claimed the lives of 20,000 people.

THE SAMRAT ANDAMAN EARTHQUAKE
• The Sumatra-Andaman earthquake.
• Occure on 26th December 2004.
• Magnitude – 9.1
• It struck off the coast of the Indonesian island of Sumatra
• The tsunami generated by the earthquake was recorded nearly
worldwide and killed more people than any other tsunami in
recorded history, with almost 230,000 missing and presumed
dead.
