Common Digestive Disorders

Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)

If you have heartburn or acid reflux more than a couple

of times a week, you may have Gastroesophageal
Reflux Disease, or GERD.

The esophagus moves swallowed food down to your

stomach. You can treat GERD with lifestyle changes,
and eating smaller meals.
Peptic Ulcer Disease (PUD) and Gastritis

PUD is an open sore in the

lining of the stomach or upper
part of the small intestine.
Gastritis is inflammation of the
stomach lining.

Stomach Flu
Is an infection of the
stomach and upper part
of the small intestine.
Gluten Sensitivity and Celiac Disease

Symptoms of gluten sensitivity and

celiac disease are similar. They
include diarrhoea, bloating, and
abdominal pain.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)

It refers to long-lasting
inflammation in the
digestive tract.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

People sometimes confuse IBS with IBD. IBS

is abdominal pain that occurs at least three
times a month for three months in a row. Unlike
IBD, IBS doesn’t harm the digestive tract and
it’s far more common.
Constipation

Constipation is difficult or
infrequent passage of stool. If you
have bowel movements less than
three times a week, you likely are
constipated.

Hemorrhoids
Are painful, swollen blood
vessels in the anal canal.
Constipation and pregnancy
are major causes.
Diverticular Disease
Includes diverticulosis small pouches
that form in the wall of your colon
and diverticulitis and become
inflamed.

Gallstones

The gallbladder is an organ attached to your

intestine that stores bile- a digestive juice. Bile
can form small, hard deposits called gallstones.

Recipe to aid acid reflux
Feeling bloated or constipated?
Watermelon and cantaloupe juice are rich
in water content and are nutrient-dense.
Juice and drink each fruit alone or together.
Do not be afraid to drink them in jumbo
glasses especially in cases of constipation.

There may be a temporary uneasiness

after drinking the juice, but it’s working
up the bulk for elimination and relief will
come.
· ½ a cantaloupe
· ½ a watermelon

This juice is great to reduce water

retention and bloating that comes with
eating too much sodium or the ladies’
monthly menstruation.
