Let’s Nourish the Body

Whenever you feel hungry, you


eat. You eat to ease your
hunger. You eat to nourish
yourself and become healthy.
But did you know that there are
people who eat too much but are
still malnourished?
Some children are picky toward
food. They only eat the food they
want. Some children choose
healthful food like fruits and
vegetables while others prefer
hotdogs, fries, and burgers more
than fruits and vegetables.
What is Malnutrition?
 MALNUTRITION means
the lack of proper nutrition.
It happens when the body is
not getting enough or
getting too much nutrients
from the food eaten.
 A person eats a lot of these foods
that contain less nutrients more
often.
 These foods contain many
nutrients but a person eats them
less.
 These foods contain many

 Malnutrition may also be caused
by poor eating habits. The
following are the examples of
poor eating habits that may cause
malnutrition.
 In worst cases, eats nothing at
all. Remember, the less food one
eats, the less nutrients the person
gets.
 Not eating fruits and
vegetables

 Eating more “JUNK” or


unhealthful foods than
healthful foods.
 Skipping meals or not
eating on time.

 Watching TV or
playing video
games while
eating.
Forms of Malnutrition
Growing children between 7 and 12
years old should eat a balance meal
following the food pyramid. It is
prepared by food experts to guide
parents and professionals to
understand the growth and
development of Filipino Children. The
food pyramid should be considered in
choosing the food to be eaten every
day.
What does a healthful
plate look like?
A healthful plate should consist
of the following:
 half of the plate should consist of
vegetables and fruits or glow foods.
 One quarter or ¼ of the plate should
include Go foods like rice bread, and
pasta.
 The other ¼ of the plate should be
composed of the food that will help
you grow, like meat and fish.
