- Is giving a better explanation to show the strengths
or weakness of something.
- It present a value judgment based on set of criteria
- It is about giving a sound judgment that can be
backed up by proofs.
Three parts of evaluative essay:

1. The judgment or the overall opinion


2. The criteria or the reasons for the
opinion
3. The evidence to support it

1. Introduction
This is where the writer gives his or her overall opinion or
judgment in the form of thesis statement.

Thesis statement:
The excellent story, the captivating scenes and the engaging
plot, makes it a must see film.s
2. Background information
It gives the readers an idea of what the writer is talking
about. This can be a brief summary if it is a book or
movie. This way, your readers are able to understand
exactly your point.
3. Criteria
Something that is used as a reason for making a judgment or decision.
You need at least two to three strong criteria to support you claim and
prove your thesis statement.
Ex:
a. Movie criteria: plots, actors, scenery, dialogue, humor musical tone.
b. Restaurant criteria: food served, service, quality, atmosphere, price.
4. Conclusion
It summarizes the points made in the body of your
essay.

Paragraph 1: Introduction
use an opening sentence
describe your topic
list the criteria in evaluating your topic
Paragraph 2: Description of Criterion 1s
restate criterion 1
give your opinion on how topics meets the criterion
provide supporting evidence to support you opinion
give a statement that defends against counterarguments
Paragraph 3: Description of Criterion 2
Paragraph 4: Description of Criterion 3
Paragraph 5: Conclusion
think of a metaphor or simile that will make the reader understand your opinion
Restate your opinion
End with a great lasting thought based on your opinion.
