Strategic choices
Key choices in Strategic human resource planning must be made along several
dimensions. These are:
1. Proactive or Reactive (Carefully anticipate needs & plan strategically or simply
react to needs as they arise)
2. Breadth (Narrow focus or Broad focus)

3. Formality of the plan (Informal plan i.e. mostly in heads of its managers and
personnel staff or Formalized i.e. backed by supporting documentation & data)
4. Degree of tie between HR plan & strategic plan (Loosely tied if at all to the firms’
strategic plan or Fully integrated with the strategic plan)
5. Flexibility (Ability of the plan to anticipate & deal with contingencies)
