LO:To learn about different forces

Success Criteria
• To understand what a force is
• To understand different forces
• To learn new vocabulary
What is Friction?
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zvr3nrd/articles/zxqrdxs

Friction is a force which

tries to slow down an
object moving on a
surface.
And it goes the opposite
direction.

And friction occurs everywhere! We will do an

experiment in 3 weeks about friction.
What is Gravity

Gravity is the force

that helps us stay on
the ground.
But we can't see
gravity.
LOb: Understand examples of forces and their effects.
Learning outcomes:
Keywords:
Push, pull, twist, contact force,  Describe what forces do
gravity, air resistance,
friction, interaction pair,  Recall force examples and the
newton metre, newton direction they normally act

 Explain how forces are

measured and interaction pairs

Did you know… without forces you

would die, without forces we couldn’t
fly. With out forces we couldn’t make
pie and with out forces there would be
no sun in the sky.

What is a force?

A force is something that when applied will

change the direction, shape or speed of an
object. It is a…
3 main types of force…

Below is the answer. What is the
question?
When applied it causes an object to either change
shape, direction or speed.

What could you add to make this

answer even better?
When applied it causes an object to either change shape,
direction or speed.
It is a pull, push or twist.
We can’t see a force, only their effects. We use arrows to
show the direction of forces. The size of the arrow changes
depending on the force size.
Sometimes we label onto Sometimes we use free
a diagram body diagrams

Thrust is the force of an engine making an object move
forward. A similar force is called driving force.

Air resistance
Lift is a force caused by the Up-thrust is a force caused by
wings of a plane or flying an object on water. It always
object. It always acts upwards works upwards on the object.

If the plane is at a constant Both arrows must be the same
height both arrows are equal. otherwise the boat
will fly into the sky or sink.
There are two groups of forces that interact with an
object.
‘Contact’
- There is contact between exerting
force and receiving force -

‘Non-Contact’
- The result is visible but you can
not see the contact between
the force and the agent -
Activity: Sort these forces into contact and non-contact

All forces are acting in pairs (interaction pair).

Forces are measured in the unit Newtons (N) using a
newton-meter.

Your task is to draw a pull and push force.
Remember to explain what is happening!
Then fill out the sheet and come to me to mark.
I will give you the challenge.
Challenge:
To label the forces and explain if balanced or
not, but if already done. Then pick an object,
draw a diagram, label the forces and explain
what is happening.
