In linguistics, an allomorph is a variant phonetic form
of a morpheme, or, a unit of meaning that varies in
sound and spelling without changing the meaning.
The term allomorph describes the realization of
phonological variations for a specific morpheme.
An allomorphs is one of two or more
complementary morphs, which manifest
a morpheme in its different phonological
or morphological environment.

The allomorphs of a morpheme are


derived from phonological rules and any
morpho phonemic rules that may apply
to that morpheme
Examples of allomorphs
• The plural morphones in english, usually
written as(s) has a least 3 allomorphs

• [s] as in hats
• [z] as in cars
• [!z] as in boxes
