WRITING YOUR THESIS

(Methodology,Abstract,Citation)

Presentation by
Ar.Bindu Chandana
METHODOLOGY

WHAT IS THE METHODOLOGY

● Methodology is where you highlight the philosophical underpinnings of your research and outline the specific research design
choices you’ve made.
● The point of the methodology is to tell the reader exactly how you designed your THESIS and to justify your design choices.
● It is included in your thesis after the Introduction section.
● The methodology chapter should comprehensively describe and justify all the research design choices you made.
● For example,
○ the type of research you conducted (e.g. qualitative or quantitative)
○ how you collected your data
○ how you analysed your data and who or where you collected data from (sampling)

“Methodology in research is defined as the systematic method to resolve a research problem through data gathering using various
techniques, providing an interpretation of data gathered and drawing conclusions about the research data. Essentially, a
research methodology is the blueprint of a research or study (Murthy & Bhojanna, 2009, p. 32).”

Abstract

WHAT IS AN ABSTRACT
● An abstract is a 150- to 250-word paragraph
that provides readers with a quick overview of
your essay or report and its organization. It
should express your thesis (or central idea)
and your key points; it should also suggest
any implications or applications of the
research you discuss in the paper.
● According to Carole Slade, an abstract is “a
concise summary of the entire paper.”
● For example, if your thesis has five chapters
(introduction, literature review, methodology,
results, conclusion), there should be one or
more sentences assigned to summarize each
chapter.
