Read the Poem
“Mother May I”
May I… is how we usually begin
our sentences when we are asking
permission.We ask permission from
other people before we do
something.
When you ask for permission to do or
use something that belongs to someone
else you have to do your best to be
polite. It is desireable to use the word
“please”.
Politeness is one of the characteristics that
you should have. There are lots of ways on
how one can
show politeness. Saying po and opo is one of
these ways. Also, you can show politeness
using appropriate
words or expressions in different events.
GROUP ACTIVITY: ROLE PLAY
Recall the expression used to ask for
permission. Share what you know about
it.
I will divide the class into 6 groups. I will
assign a situation in which you need to
use the polite expression for asking
permission to each group. You will act
out the situation and say the
appropriate expression.
Group 1 Situation: You and your friends want to borrow
your neighbor’s can so you can play “tumbang preso.” What
will you say to your neighbor so he will let you borrow his
can?
Group 2 Situation: You are having a hard time tying up your
shoelaces. What will you say to your teacher so he or she
will help you?
Group 3 Situation: You and your friends want to eat the
boiled bananas on the table. What will you tell your
grandmother so she will let you eat the boiled bananas?
Group 4 Situation: You and your brother want to play
outside. What will you tell to your mother so she will let you
play outside?
Group 5 Situation: You and your brothers/sisters want to play
in the rain. What will you tell your father so he will let you
play in the rain?
Group 6 Situation: You and your cousin want to borrow your
sister’s blanket. What will you tell your sister so that she will
allow you to borrow her blanket?
Write the correct polite expression in
the situation.
