Contemporary Art
is influenced by the economic, social,
political and environmental context
where the artist is immersed in.
-is the artist’s expression of his
perception and comprehension of these
contexts.
-is not confined to the usual genres of
the four main art forms, namely, visual,
literary, applied and performing arts.
Genres are categories of artistic creation
and are characterized by similarities in
form, style, or subject matter. Many
other genres came up which include
pure are forms as well as mixed art
forms.

Examples of Contemporary
Art Forms
Pop art, art movement of the late
1950s and ’60s that was inspired by
commercial and popular culture.
Although it did not have a specific
style or attitude, Pop art was defined
as a diverse response to the postwar
era’s commodity-driven values, often
using commonplace objects (such as 
comic strips, soup cans, road signs,
and hamburgers) as subject matter or
as part of the work.

Conceptual Art
also called post-object
art or art-as-idea, artwork
whose medium is an idea (or a
concept), usually manipulated
by the tools of language and
sometimes documented by 
photography. Its concerns are
idea-based rather than formal.

Installation Art
is a visual artwork that can be constructed from
a variety of materials and can be created in a
variety of locations. Installation art aims to
change a viewer's perception of the space and
environment in which it is in. This art differs
from other three-dimensional art mediums
because it utilizes the changing perspective of
the viewer as they move. Viewers are able to
become involved and even
participate within the piece, whereas a
sculpture is made to be viewed from
the outside.

Photorealism

Photorealism is a style
of art that mimics the
accuracy and detail of a
photograph

Contemporary Realism
is an art movement that
celebrates representational,
well-executed paintings
created with high technical
skill. Sub-categories within
it include figurative realism,
narrative paintings,
photorealism, and
hyperrealism.

Graffiti Art

refers to images or text

buildings, typically
using spray paint

Performance Art

is an art form which relies

Computer Art
manipulation of computer-generated
images (pictures, designs, scenery,
portraits, etc.) as part of a purposeful 
creative process. Specialized software is
used together with interactive devices such
as digital cameras, optical scanners, styli,
and electronic tablets. Because graphic
images require large programs, the
computers used in such work are generally
among the fastest and most powerful
available. Computer art has wide
applications in advertising, publishing, and
film.

Graphic Novel
is a narrative work in which
the story is conveyed to the
reader using sequential art in
either an experimental design
or in a traditional comics
format.

Manga
are comics or graphic novels originating
from Japan. Most manga conform to a
style developed in Japan in the late 19th
century, and the form has a long history in
earlier Japanese art. The term manga is
used in Japan to refer to both comics and
cartooning. Outside of Japan, the word is
typically used to refer to comics originally
published in the country.

messages, and blogs can all be
used.

Flash Fiction

is a genre of fiction, defined


as a very short story. While
there is no set word count that
separates flash fiction from
more traditional short stories,
flash fiction stories can be as
short as a few words (while
short stories typically run for
several pages).

Hyperpoetry is also known
as cyberpoetry. Hyperpoetry refers
