 What is tower crane?

Tower Crane is A type of lifting structure which

utilizes a vertical mast or tower to support a
working boom elevated position.

It
used for moving and lifting heavy materials
while having a relatively small footprint on site.

Tower crane are great at lifting materials and

moving across long distances.
 Parts of tower crane and function
 Tower crane in generals are composed of 3 main parts
Base,Mast and slewing unit.
 Base:- The base is main support of the crane. It connected
to a large concrete foundation that carries the entire
weight.

 Mast:- The mast is connected to the base ,and it is the

supporting structure that gives the crane its height. The
mast has large triangular structure which gives cranes its
strength.

 Slewing Unit:-The slewing unit consist of a gear and

motor attached to the top of the mast ,allowing the
crane to rotate along its axis. In turn the slewing unit
consist of 3 parts as follow…….
 Parts of tower crane and function
Slewing unit consist of 3 parts are as follow:-

1. Jib or Working Arms:- A horizontal element that carries

the load, with a trolly that runs along its length to move
the load in and out.

2. Machinery arms:- A shorter horizontal element that holds

the load- lifting motor. It also contain electronic controls,
cable drum and concrete counter weights to keep
balance.

3. Operator cabin:- consists of space in which the operator

handles all function of the crane.
 Types Of Tower Crane

For Testing Of Tower Crane
 PROCEDURE
 Lighting arrester lamp will be fixed on the top of the
cab.
 Overload and movement cut off limit switch setting will
be done.
 No load function of tower crane and limit switch
cheaking will be done.
 Tower crane operation with load will be cheaked.
 Load test of the tower crane will be done by component
and approved agency.
 The report sent to TSC before commission of tower
cranes.
 Introduction Of Tower Crane Climbing
 Need Of Climbing Tower Crane
 The type of crane used for raising tall buildings is called
a climbing tower crane, or this process called as tower
climbing process

 Use Of Tower Crane Climbing

 Climbing cranes is useful for the construction of tall
buildings and on sites where no space is available
outside the buildings for the operation of a traveling or
a stationary cranes.
 Types Of Climbing Cranes
 THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF CLIMBING CRANES ARE AS
FOLLOW:-

 External Climbing Cranes:-

In this method of climbing ,climbing done by
externally it means that outside the building.

 Internal Climbing Cranes:-

In this method of climbing ,climbing done by
internally it means that inside of the building.
 Climbing Of external Climbing Crane
 Information About External Climbing:-

 In an external climbing crane, the climbing frame is the key

element.

 It has hydraulic rams that actually lift the cab and jib
structure.

 As the building grows, the ram jack the climbing frame up,
raising the cab and jib.

 A new section of the mast is then hoisted up and slid into

place in the open side of the climbing frame.
 CLIMBING OF EXTERNAL CLIMBING CRANE
{Continue}

 Once that new section is bolted in, the climbing frame can
jack itself again and again and again, until the crane is at
the desired height.

 The crane must be balanced before the climb, which usually

required that a specified hook load be held at a specified
radius.

 The crane are balanced by setting counter weights or boom

position.

 The top climbing should not be done in high winds.

 Advantages of tower crane:-

 Following are the advantage of tower crane: -

 Tower cranes are large and heavy and powerful machines

that used to lifting heavy loads.
 The tower cranes are highly efficient.
 Tower cranes can handle a heavy load.
 Tower cranes must be erected and dismantled using cranes.
 Tower cranes must be required plenty space around the job
site.
 Tower crane are the machines used to move ,lifting ,lower
and raise objects.
 Disadvantages Of Tower Cranes
 Following are the disadvantages of tower
crane:-

 The tower cranes are very expensive.

 They required time ,efforts and money to be
shifted from one area to another area
 They have a high maintenance cost for a
repairs.
 They have major labor intensive to install.
 Tower Crane Safety Inspection
 Following are safety inspection or daily checklist and schedule of
tower crane.

 Tower crane should be physically in good condition , free from

defects .
 Foundation should be provided as per design.
 Operator cabin should be in good condition, equipped with wind
glass and wireless communication.
 Safe working load should be marked.
 Counterweight should be properly fixed .
 Hydralic cylinder ,house should be in good condition and free from
defects.
 Hoist and trolley limit switch should be provided and working in
state.
 Tower Crane Safety Inspection:-

 Safety load indicator should be in working condition.

 Fire extinguisher should be available in cable and
inspected.
 First aid kit should be available in operator cabin.
 Crane operator should have valid license and
certificate.
 Check emergency switch functioning {inside Cabin}.
 Restriction of mobile used.
 Check availability of walkie and tolkie.
 Check limit switch condition.
 Check availability of load chart.
 Mobile Crane

 What is the purpose or advantages of mobile

cranes ?
 Mobile cranes can be used to lift heavy objects and move
them short distance ,as well as to help construct larger
tower cranes.
 A mobile crane is a very simple cable controlled machine
with a boom attached tomits platform.
 There are many lifting operations, where using tower
crane is not practical.
 The operation such statue lifting or indoor lifting cannot
be possible by the static cranes.
 Therefore ,the best solution to such a construction
problem is ,mobile crane.
 Mobile Crane

 Mobile cranes are faster to set up.

 The biggest advantage of mobile cranes is the flexibility
and ability to install in area where static crane can’t
reach.
 The world tallest crane is liebher LTM 11200-9.1 can be
lift upto 1,200 tons. This is the world tallest and
strongest mobile crane.
 Mobile Crane
 Information about mobile crane used for
erection of tower crane in bellenza:-

 Type Crane:- Mobile Crane 350T

 Counter Weight :- 39.9T
 Radius :- 24m
 Lifting Radius:-12M
Dismantaling Process Of Tower Crane
 Following are the procedure follow during the tower
crane dismantaling:-
1. Mobile crane placement and fitness inspection.
2. Hock block will be removed and hoist rope will be
reversed back on hoist drum.
3. The required mobile crane used to dismantaling the
rear counter weights from the tower crane.
4. Expect the last load one which will dismantled after
removing front jib.
5. After removing front jib the last counter weight shall
be removed.
 Following are the procedure follow during
the tower crane dismantaling

6. After that hoisting mechanism shall be removed with

the help of mobile crane.
7. Remove the counter jib.
8. Mobile to dismantle the tower head and cabin.
9. Mast section will be removed one by one and the
climbing cage remove.
10. The foundation Section cut.
