A 15 storey commercial building with roof deck
will be constructed in Bonifacio Street, Baguio
City. According to the geotechnical
investigation, the where the building will be
constructed is said to be a very dense

Example soil( shear wave velocity=500m/s). The weight

per floor is estimated to be 1950kN. The roof

Problem deck weighs less at about 1600kN. Solve for the

Base Shear, V, using Static force procedure.

Note:
Height per floor=3.5m
The structure will be a special moment resisting
steel frame.

 Water loads
- when we design, water tanks, dams or any other
liquid retaining structures, we use the same method
considered in applying the water pressure.
 Earth loads
OTHER -when there is earth to be retained, necessary
LATERAL LOAD calculations shall be done to obtain the correct soil
pressure applied to the structures.
 Notional load
-it is the minimum load applied to a structure. It
covers any construction defect, distribution of the
moment, etc.
