Earthquake

Introduction
.
 Earthquake

 The level of preparedness of Dhaka cities residents

 Significances of preparedness
What is an earthquake?

 Earthquakes are natural vibrations caused

by sudden movements in the Earth’s crust,

the Earth’s thin outer layer.

 Earthquakes are a type of natural hazard.

Hypothesis

 People in Dhaka are not properly prepared for a massive earthquake

  The buildings are not structurally capable to deal with an earthquake.

 Schools, colleges, and universities can launch special programs to

develop an emergency communication plan and teach the safety
protocol that one should follow during an earthquake.

 One should find a safe place without hazards

Hypothesis

  Informational gap regarding dealing with an earthquake among the poor &
illiterate portion

 NGOs should help the people for getting ready to work with local
emergency services and Cross officials.

 Residents should more be aware and be active in raising their level of

preparedness by educating themselves and their family members.
Research Questions
 Do they think they are prepared for countering an earthquake if No why?

 Is their residence safe from an earthquake if not what action is needed to be taken?

 How education institutes can raise awareness?

 What do residents of Dhaka city have to do during an earthquake?

 Among the residents is there any informational gap in preparedness for an earthquake?

 How NGOs can make Dhaka city residents more prepared for an earthquake?

 If the resident is not prepared to counter a massive earthquake then what action of the
residence can change this situation?
Methodology

Quantitative Research

Primary research
 Conducted by a survey of 16 to 30-year-old male
and female participants.

 My target sample size is between 30 and 50

participants.( Resident's of Dhaka)

 Respondents 36
Secondary Research

 Google Scholar and other websites for secondary research.

Data Analysis

 As expected a large portion of the

responders are not prepared for an
earthquake because they are unaware of
the damages during an earthquake.

 They are unaware because there is not

enough information provided regarding
the matter.
Data Analysis

 The results strongly suggest that

my hypothesis is matched in this
matter because the matter talks
about the effectiveness of raising
awareness, so having a plan on
hand and teaching those in
educational institutes to prepare
for calamity is the most effective
option.
Data Analysis

 The larger portion said their home is

structurally safe because most of them may
reside in the newly built building keeping all the
safety margins in mind.
Data Analysis

 The majority of people agreed with the current

reality of our society that uneducated and poor
people are away from the initiatives of preparing
them for an earthquake.
Data Analysis

 The majority thinks that way

because there is a huge lack of
movement within the boundaries
of the community of our which
can be the whole scenario.
Summary of Findings Slide

 The main theme is the preparedness level of Dhaka city residents for an
earthquake is satisfactory or not this research certainly matched my hypothesis.

 On some findings, it is noticeable that respondents produced a result that partially

derails my hypothesis.

 As the people want NGOs should educate people by advising them on home
earthquake drills.

 The research proves that there is a massive lack in the preparedness of Dhaka
cities residents for an earthquake.

 The people who are illiterate and not privileged in society are at high risk of an
earthquake disaster because they are not under the radar of being prepared or any
initiatives.
Conclusion/Recommendations

 To overcome this situation, people have to be first concerned and motivate themselves
to be more active in raising the level of preparedness in their own community because
every citizen has some responsibilities toward its society.

 Additionally, strictly maintain the rules about the construction of a building to be able to
counter an earthquake.

 In conclusion, we can say that the preparation for an earthquake is not significant for
Dhaka city's residents.

 The lack of government and non-government awareness-raising operations is one

factor.
